“Killed Volk and took his look” – Fans left shellshocked as Islam Makhachev unveils new “mythical fighter look” on social media
When Islam Makhachev makes his next appearance in the octagon, he might have a different appearance.
Makhachev’s recent Instagram video, in which he proudly displayed his newly shaved head, has sparked a lot of discussion among his followers. While the lightweight champion did not specify whether this is a permanent change or if he will reveal his new look in his next fight, fans have plenty to talk about on social media.
Fans pointed out the striking similarity between Makhachev and his previous adversary Alexander Volkanovski, jokingly suggesting that the fighter may have borrowed his ex-foe’s appearance.
“A fan commented:”
“Killed Volk and took his look”
Several other fans proclaimed that Makhachev transformed into a legendary fighter after shaving his head, stating:
“New mythical fighter. All GOAT fighters were bald”
Despite being a Muslim, Makhachev has always maintained a neat and trimmed haircut, but he has never stepped into the UFC ring completely bald. In fact, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was also Makhachev’s coach, once remembered how his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, had a strict rule regarding the hairstyles of his fighters.
After the video was released on April 1, many other fans questioned whether the shaved head was real or if the Dagestani was simply playing an ‘April Fools’ joke.
Additionally, supporters left their comments:
“April fools, or maybe shaving his head is the joke itself”
“Looks like Volk and Khamzat had a baby”
“Skinhead Poirier vs. Skinhead Makhachev is about to be crazy”
“Looks better ngl”

Who is Islam Makhachev’s next challenger for the lightweight title?
Despite his desire to challenge Leon Edwards for the UFC welterweight title, Islam Makhachev is likely to defend his lightweight championship in his next fight.
As UFC 300 approaches, many MMA fans and media sources believe that the next lightweight title contender will be none other than Dustin Poirier, a former interim champion. Poirier has previously attempted to win the undisputed belt twice without success, but his recent knockout victory over Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299 has reignited his title aspirations. While Poirier is the favored choice, Makhachev has expressed interest in facing him and has limited options for his anticipated return in June.
Further fueling speculation, Poirier recently shared a mysterious post on social media, revealing that he is back in the gym but refraining from disclosing any details about a potential comeback or opponent.
Despite speculation, Makhachev’s upcoming fight has not been officially scheduled as he is currently observing Ramadan until April 9.
