Kevin Love cedes GOAT outlet passer crown to Nikola Jokic citing another outrageous full-court dime
When it comes to grabbing defensive rebounds and quickly converting them into points with precise outlet passes, Kevin Love is undoubtedly one of the best in the game. While there are other rebounders who can perform this skill, few can execute it as effectively as Love. In fact, Love himself has acknowledged that two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic has a superior ability in this area compared to anyone else, including himself.
The Denver Nuggets easily scored a basket against the San Antonio Spurs thanks to a pinpoint pass from Jokic to Justin Holiday, which was shared in a highlight by the official NBA Twitter account. The pass was made from the other side of the court and resulted in an easy score.
Love proceeded to repost the tweet, also taking the opportunity to shower Jokic with glowing compliments.
“I mean defense is lacking,”Love said in his tweet, “BUT Joker has become the [GOAT] outlet passer.”
It is not uncommon to see a larger player with exceptional outlet passing abilities in the NBA, and Kevin Love is undoubtedly among the top performers in this aspect. However, Nikola Jokic has revolutionized the role of a playmaking center. His exceptional court vision is on par with renowned guards such as Steve Nash.
Domantas Sabonis breaks Kevin Love’s double-double record with impressive streak
Kevin Love’s renowned streak of 53 consecutive double-doubles during the 2010-11 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves was one of the key factors that brought him into the spotlight.
During his streak from Nov. 22, 2010 to Mar. 11, 2011, Love had played in 53 consecutive games. Despite being on track for a longer run, coach Kurt Rambis made the decision to take him out of the game with four minutes left, just four points away from achieving another double-double.
Despite the Timberwolves trailing by a significant margin, Love’s presence in the game was unnecessary. Throughout the 53-game stretch, he maintained an average of 21.8 points and 16.3 rebounds.
Domantas Sabonis broke his streak of consecutive double-doubles on Mar. 25 while playing against the Philadelphia 76ers, surpassing his previous record. The talented big man for the Sacramento Kings has since extended his streak and currently holds an impressive 58 games with double-doubles.
One thing that differentiates him from Love is that he has achieved a total of 23 triple-doubles during his run. In comparison, the highest number of assists Love recorded during his streak was seven.
Sabonis’ streak is distinguished from Love’s by the fact that one of his double-doubles was achieved through a combination of points and assists. On January 25, in a game against the Golden State Warriors, he recorded 18 points and 13 assists despite only grabbing eight rebounds. His other double-doubles have all consisted of points and rebounds. Interestingly, Love’s streak came to an end against the same Warriors team.
With only seven regular season games remaining on the Kings’ schedule and Sabonis’ streak still intact, there is a possibility that he could finish the season with 65 consecutive double-doubles.
