Kesha Reveals Why the Music Industry Should Be “Terrified” of Her Future Plans
American singer-songwriter Kesha has made it abundantly clear that the music industry should be “terrified”of her upcoming plans. Following a decade-long legal battle with her former producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke”Gottwald, Kesha is now stepping into a new chapter of her career where she is fully in control of her music and her future.
In a recent interview with Elle on October 3rd, the pop star elaborated on her ambitions to ‘reshape’ the music industry to ensure that no other artist faces the ‘same struggles’ she endured.
Kesha discussed her new album, describing it as an embodiment of “joy.”She expressed, “My soul is very fun. My name means ‘innocent joy.’
“The music industry should be fing terrified of me. I’m about to make some major moves and shift this s… I hope my legacy is making sure it never happens to anybody ever again.”
However, this album is about more than just fun—it’s also ‘deeply personal’. Kesha emphasized that she has fought hard for this moment, hinting at the toll her legal battles have taken on her. As she looks towards the future, she is determined to reclaim the joy in her life and her music.
Kesha Discusses Her Ambitions to Reshape the Industry Post-Legal Battles
Now launching her own record label, Kesha Records, the pop star has the freedom to create the kind of music she desires and to set ‘new standards’ for the industry.
“I’m about to make some major moves and shift this s**. I really want to dismantle it piece by piece and shine light into every corner,”she declared.
Her vision includes dismantling exploitative practices that control artists via unfair contracts, such as “ownership in perpetuity”clauses, which tie musicians to labels indefinitely. She is vocally opposed to these practices, asserting that they strip artists of their autonomy and creative expression.
After parting ways with RCA Records in June 2023, Kesha released her first single as an independent artist, titled “Joyride,”marking the start of a new era in her career. This release came shortly after her legal battle with Dr. Luke concluded.
While neither Kesha nor Dr. Luke admitted fault, both parties released statements on Instagram in June 2023, with Kesha stating, “Only God knows what happened that night.”Dr. Luke has consistently denied the allegations of drugging and sexual assault made by the pop star.
Yet, Kesha’s mission extends beyond her personal battle. She is collaborating with the tech industry to develop a digital platform that prioritizes artists’ safety and transparency. In her Elle interview, she expressed her disdain for the “old way of doing everything with secrecy”and issued a stark warning to those harboring “deep, dark secrets”—their time is nearly up.
Currently, Kesha is focused on releasing her new album, which is scheduled to launch in early 2025. She is also expanding her record label with plans to sign emerging artists who align with her vision for transparency and fairness in the industry.
Additionally, Kesha is engaged in ongoing collaborations in the tech space to create artist-friendly platforms that ensure creative freedom and safety. With her record label, upcoming album, and tech initiatives, Kesha is committed to making a substantial impact in the music industry.
