Ember Lab to Release Kena: Bridge of Spirits on Nintendo Switch 2 This Spring
Today, California’s Ember Lab, an independent game developer, revealed that their acclaimed title, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, will be available on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 this Spring. This announcement promises to bring Kena’s captivating story to a broader audience.
A Remarkable Journey from Console to Portable
Originally launched on PlayStation consoles and PC in September 2021, Kena: Bridge of Spirits received widespread acclaim, securing several prestigious awards including Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2021.
While it draws inspiration from classics such as The Legend of Zelda, Kena distinguishes itself with stunning visuals, an engaging combat system, and intricate puzzle designs. Although the storyline might feel somewhat lacking and the game does not necessarily innovate beyond its predecessors, its strengths are pronounced enough that they overshadow its shortcomings.
Message from Ember Lab’s COO
In a press release, Josh Grier, Chief Operating Officer of Ember Lab, expressed enthusiasm about this new chapter for Kena:
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Kena’s journey to a whole new audience, giving players the chance to experience her story at home or on the go with Nintendo Switch 2. As our studio’s debut title, the overwhelming support and love the game has received over the years has truly meant a great deal to our team. We’re beyond thrilled that even more players will now be able to fully immerse themselves in Kena’s world and become part of her journey.”
Enhanced Features for Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 adaptation will introduce the Anniversary DLC, which is packed with new content such as Charmstones, Spirit Guide Trials, additional Kena Outfits, and improved accessibility features for a wider range of players.
Upcoming Sequel: Kena: Scars of Kosmora
Just recently, during February’s State of Play event, Ember Lab unveiled a sequel titled Kena: Scars of Kosmora, scheduled for release later this year on PlayStation and PC via Steam. The new installment features Kena as a skilled Spirit Guide embarking on a journey to the enigmatic island of Kosmora. There, she seeks a remedy for her personal struggles while reestablishing connections with an old acquaintance.
It’s important to note that Scars of Kosmora will be published by PlayStation Publishing, marking a shift from the self-publishing of the first game. Consequently, its release may not extend to Xbox or other Nintendo platforms.
