With the impending launch of the domestic OTT series Love in the Big City on TVING, all promotional trailer content has been retracted. The series, featuring actors Nam Yoon-su and Jin Ho-eun, had its official trailer debut on August 30, 2024, showcasing a Boy Love (BL) narrative centered on its two lead characters.
On October 12, writer Park Sang Young took to social media to disclose that Love in the Big City had come under fire from specific groups, which triggered a wave of complaints from various organizations. Consequently, all trailers were removed. The writer did not hold back his frustration regarding this unexpected situation.
“Despite my eight years of experience as a writer, the harsh realities of the situation still catch me off guard,”he remarked.
Controversy Leads to Trailer Removal for Love in the Big City; Writer Vows Release Date of October 21
This drama is adapted from Park Sang Young‘s novel Love in the Big City. In a post on October 12, the writer shared his disappointment and revealed that the series was deliberately targeted, resulting in the removal of promotional materials.
In his statement, he noted,
“Due to the settings established and the substantial number of complaints received by the relevant department, I was compelled to take down all official trailers.”
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the drama’s promotion, he voiced his anger.
“With just nine days until the premiere, I was unable to sleep at night because of my frustration stemming from these promotional hindrances,”he expressed.
Nonetheless, the writer reaffirmed his determination to ensure the show premieres as scheduled on October 21. He also encouraged audiences to rally behind the series.
“I am actively seeking ways to reactivate our promotional efforts. Regardless of the circumstances, Love in the Big City will launch on October 21. Please help spread the word and share the narrative! Most importantly, enjoy the show! Ultimately, we will prevail!”he stated.
Previously, after sharing the trailer on Instagram, Nam Yoon-su encountered a mixture of criticism and supportive comments. Many fans lauded the representation of LGBTQ+ stories in Korean entertainment and expressed their enthusiasm for the project.
An Insight into the Plot of Love in the Big City
Based on the work of Park Sang Young, the series narrates the tale of Go Yeong, who falls deeply in love with Gyu Ho but faces the heart-wrenching need to let him go. After Gyu Ho’s departure, Go Yeong embarks on an impromptu journey to Thailand with a stranger, during which he reminisces about fond memories and experiences significant personal development.
The narrative delves into themes of love, loss, and self-discovery, primarily focusing on the transformative bond between Go Yeong and Gyu Ho. The cast includes Nam Yoon-su and Jin Ho-eun, with supporting performances from Lee Soo-kyung, Lee Se-he, Oh Hyun-kyung, and Kwon Hyuk.
Love in the Big City is set to debut on TVING on October 21, 2024, and will consist of a total of eight episodes.
