Windows 11 Insiders Beta Channel Update: Build 22635.4580
Microsoft has recently rolled out a significant update to the Windows 11 Insiders within the Beta channel. The new build, designated as 22635.4580 and identified by KB5046733, includes notable enhancements for File Explorer and addresses several critical bugs, particularly one that hindered Windows activation after a motherboard replacement. This update also resolves issues related to IPP USB printers and more.
Key Changes and Enhancements
New Features Coming to the Beta Channel
[Taskbar & System Tray]
- The simplified system tray feature that commenced with Build 22635.4010 is currently on hold to rectify several user-reported issues. Your feedback has been invaluable in this process.
[File Explorer]
- File Explorer now supports the opening of folders from external locations—such as apps or the desktop—in new tabs by default, provided an instance of File Explorer is already active. Users desiring to maintain the old behavior of opening new windows can adjust this in the folder options under General > Browse Folders.
- With the “Restore previous folder windows at logon” feature enabled, all additional tabs open in each File Explorer instance will be retained. Furthermore, enhancements have been made to the setting “Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign back in,” which now automatically enables the File Explorer setting when activated.
- A new option has been introduced to either snooze or disable the “Start backup” reminder within the File Explorer address bar. This feature caters specifically to users who have yet to back up their Documents, Pictures, or Desktop folders. Access this option via a right-click on “Start backup.”
Critical Fixes in the Latest Update
Resolved Issues in the Beta Channel
[Input]
- We have addressed a problem for Pinyin IME users where switching between windows using ALT + Tab inadvertently changed the IME from Chinese to English.
[General Fixes]
In addition to enhancements, this update rectifies various other issues:
- [Bluetooth LE Audio] Fixed: Resolved streaming audio issues with devices like hearing aids.
- [IPP Printer] Fixed: Windows no longer freezes when using an IPP USB printer.
- [Motherboard Replacement] Fixed: Windows will now activate correctly after motherboard replacement.
- [COSA] Fixed: Updates to Country and Operator Settings assets for certain mobile operators.
Enhanced Microsoft Store Functionality
The latest upgrade also includes significant enhancements to the Microsoft Store. Now, Win32 apps provided and updated by their publishers can be directly updated through the Microsoft Store. Previously, updates for these applications required external procedures. Insiders can simply navigate to the Downloads page and click on “Get Updates” to see any available app updates. Manual initiation of updates is required; they will not commence automatically.
Users can also check the product page of each app for the update button.
This refinement will be visible to all Windows Insiders across channels running Microsoft Store version 22411.1401.x.x or higher.
