KB5043185: New Media Controls on Windows Lock Screen Enhance Account Switching
Today, Microsoft has introduced the latest build for Windows 11 users on the Dev channel, specifically Build 26120.1843 under KB5043185. This update includes several new features and enhancements, such as improved media controls on the lock screen, convenient access to Shared content in File Explorer Home, enhanced Account Manager switching, and more.
Below is the comprehensive changelog:
New features gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*
Shared Content in File Explorer Home
File Explorer now offers quick access to files shared with you. If logged into Windows with your Microsoft account, you can see files shared through email, Teams chat, etc. For commercial users signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID, shared files from others are also visible. Access this feature by opening File Explorer Home and selecting the ‘Shared’ tab.
Additionally, you can now view a wider variety of file types in your Recent, Favorites, and Shared sections on the homepage. For instance, files you’ve recently opened or edited in Designer, Loop, Power BI, Forms, etc., will be included in your Recent list.
Windows Sandbox Client Preview
The latest build features a new Windows Sandbox Client Preview, updated via the Microsoft Store. This preview introduces runtime clipboard redirection, audio/video input control, and the ability to share folders with the host during runtime, accessible via the new “…” icon at the upper right of the app. Furthermore, an early version of command line support has been added (commands may evolve over time). You can use the ‘wsb.exe –help’ command for additional information.
Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*
[General]
- For new PCs or user accounts on managed devices (Windows 11 Enterprise, Education, or Pro with an Entra ID), the Microsoft 365 app will be pinned to the taskbar for quick access to Copilot for Microsoft 365. Existing commercial PCs will see the previous Copilot experience replaced with the new Copilot app pinned to their taskbar.
[Lock screen]
- The Lock screen media controls have been repositioned to appear at the lower center when media is being played.
[Start menu]
- Jump lists will now appear when right-clicking on pinned apps in the Start menu, such as PowerPoint.
- Based on user feedback, updates have been made to the new account manager in the Start menu, making the sign-out option more visible and adding a list of signed-in users under “…” for quicker account switch.
[Taskbar & System Tray]
- A simplified system tray is being tested to highlight the date/time in a shorter format and show the notifications bell based on Do Not Disturb status. Without the bell icon, notifications can still be accessed by clicking the date and time. Users can revert to the extended date/time display and notification bell icon by adjusting settings under Settings > Date and Time and Settings > System > Notifications.
[Search on the Taskbar]
- We are beginning to roll out the capability to share local files directly from within the search results displayed in the taskbar search box.
[Input]
- The Settings have been updated for Bluetooth & Devices > Touch, introducing a section for touch screen edge gestures, allowing you to disable the left or right edge touch gesture if desired.
[Notifications]
- An option has been added to disable notifications suggestions from specific apps. Users can now disable these notifications directly from the notification itself or in Settings under System > Notifications (referred to as “Notification Suggestions”). Please note that this entry appears only after receiving such a notification.
[Settings]
- In response to feedback, a detach virtual hard disk (VHD/`VHDx) option has been added to Settings, simplifying the process to detach your VHD/VHDx. This can be found under Settings > System > Storage > Disks & Volumes.
- The settings page for Delivery Optimization under Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization has been redesigned to align with Windows 11’s design principles.
- The dialog for viewing your Wi-Fi password under Settings > Network & internet has also been updated to match the Windows 11 design.
Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*

- Fixed an issue causing CTRL + F to occasionally fail to initiate a search in File Explorer.
- Fixed an issue where keyboard focus could intermittently be lost using Shift + Tab in File Explorer.

Fixes for everyone in the Dev Channel
[General]
- It has been confirmed that the Recall feature no longer appears under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in the Control Panel.
- Fixed a problem believed to be causing Insiders on the previous build to experience high CPU usage (100%) by the Windows Modules Installer (tiworker.exe), leading to freezes and other issues on PCs.
- Resolved an issue where some Insiders were unable to install the latest updates, encountering error 0x800f0993.
[Input]
- Fixed an issue where text suggestions for the hardware keyboard were not functioning correctly (unexpected concatenation upon selection).
[Widgets]
- Fixed an issue where the Widgets icon could sometimes appear twice in the taskbar unexpectedly.
[Other]
This update addresses the following issues:
- [FrameShutdownDelay] The browser ignores its value in the “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main” registry key.
- [Unified Write Filter (UWF) and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)] An SCCM task to re-enable UWF fails due to a deadlock in UWF, preventing the device from restarting when expected.
- [OpenSSH] This update introduces a prompt requesting confirmation when enabling OpenSSH via the Server Manager UI.
- [NetJoinLegacyAccountReuse] This registry key has been removed. More information can be found in KB5020276—Netjoin: Domain join hardening changes.
- [Domain Name System (DNS)] This update strengthens DNS server security to address CVE-2024-37968. If your domain configurations are outdated, you may encounter the SERVFAIL error or experience timeouts.
- [vmswitches] They fail to enumerate using the Get-VMSwitch command.
- [Windows Installer] After an application repair, the User Account Control (UAC) will now prompt for credentials. Automation scripts require updates, and application owners must add the Shield icon to indicate full administrator access is needed. To disable UAC prompts, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableLUAInRepair registry value to 1. This update may affect automatic Windows Installer repairs; see Application Resiliency: Unlock the Hidden Features of Windows Installer.
- [Group Policy Preferences Item Level Targeting (ILT) and Local Users and Groups] Selecting a group from the target domain for ILT is not possible. Additionally, accounts from Local Users and Groups cannot be selected if the forest does not appear. This impacts Enhanced Security Admin Environment (ESAE), Hardened Forests (HF), or Privileged Access Management (PAM) deployments.
- [Task Manager] Performance page graphs in Task Manager do not display the correct colors in dark mode.
- [Remote Desktop Services] Remote Desktop Services may become unresponsive.

This is normal and simply indicates that an in-place upgrade will occur to update your PC to the latest Dev Channel build.
- [NEW] This build may fail to install with error 0x800f0983. If this occurs, attempt to install again; it should succeed on retry. If the installation stays stuck at 0%, please be patient as it should eventually proceed.
- [NEW] Resetting your PC > Cloud Download will not function in this build and may get stuck on “Getting Things Ready.”Please select the non-cloud option for resetting while a fix is in progress.
[Start menu]
- [NEW] Clicking or tapping a letter in the Start menu’s All apps list may cause it to malfunction. If this occurs, a reboot or restarting explorer.exe may resolve the issue.
