KB5043178 Now Available for Windows 11 24H2: New Mouse Settings and Features

KB5043178 is now accessible for Copilot+ PCs as well as “traditional”computers running Windows 11 version 24H2. This update introduces numerous enhancements to the Settings app, Start menu, taskbar, lock screen, and more. Notably, it allows users to toggle mouse acceleration on or off and modify the scroll direction within the Settings app, a task that previously required accessing the system registry.

Below are the updates that are being gradually rolled out to all users ready to install this latest non-security update:

  • [Settings] New! A new energy recommendation has been introduced to disable high dynamic range (HDR) to help conserve energy on devices with HDR displays. Navigate to Settings > Power & battery > Energy recommendations.
  • [Battery life] New! When your device’s battery runs low, a pop-up will prompt you to plug in your device once the battery level hits 20%, provided Energy Saver is set to “Always On.”
  • [Start menu] New! The “Sign out”option is now accessible in the account manager within the Start menu. Click the ellipses (…) to view other users for easier switching.
  • [Taskbar] New! You can now share local files directly from the search results displayed in the Search box on the taskbar.
  • [Lock screen] New! Media controls will now be displayed at the center bottom of the lock screen while media is playing.
  • [Mouse] New! This update introduces the option to disable enhanced mouse pointer precision via Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mouse. Additionally, users can now change the mouse scroll direction.

Here’s a list of additional changes rolling out to all users:

  • [Copilot Pro subscription] New! You can now manage your Copilot Pro subscription within Settings. Simply sign in to your Microsoft account and navigate to Settings > Accounts.

Furthermore, KB5043178 addresses the following issues:

  • [Open Source Software] Attributions have been added to credits.txt files for Rust OSS components.

  • [Input Method Editor (IME)] A memory leak may occur when a combo box is in focus and you close that window.

  • [WebView2 apps] These applications do not detect inputs from Xbox 360 and Bluetooth controllers.

  • [Task Manager]

    • The Settings page may display a white background when it should not.

    • The application may stop responding during transitions from a high contrast theme to a normal theme.
