Katy Perry’s Siblings: Meet Angela Hudson Lerche and David Hudson

Famous American pop singer Katy Perry is the middle child in her family, born to Keith Hudson and Mary Hudson. She has an older sister, Angela Hudson Lerche, and a younger brother, David Hudson.

During their upbringing, the trio traveled extensively across the United States as their parents, both Pentecostal pastors, established churches before settling in Santa Barbara. Angela arrived in 1982, Katy followed in 1984, and David completed the family in 1988.

Like his sisters, David has a love for music, releasing his own tracks in the 2010s while Katy has soared to pop stardom. Together with Angela, she founded the Firework Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting access to the arts for underprivileged communities.

Angela is happily married to Svend Lerche, a Danish drummer and producer, with whom she has two daughters. David wed Kami Hudson, and they are parents to two children.

Born on December 7, 1982, Angela Hudson Lerche is Katy Perry’s older sister. From a young age, she showed a strong passion for music, joining Katy for singing lessons as children. By the age of nine, she was already investing in gospel demos, which inspired Katy to consider a career in music.

In a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone, Angela shared:

“Katy, being the middle child, always sought to stand out. Our entire family thrives on entertaining others and putting on a performance.”

Once Katy gained fame as a pop artist, Angela frequently joined her on concert tours and even met her future husband, Svend, during one of these tours.

Angela served as VIP coordinator for a tour featuring the band The Daylights in 2009, where Svend was the lead drummer.

“We made an effort to keep our relationship private for a couple of weeks, but eventually, people caught on,” Angela revealed in an interview with Santa Barbara Magazine in 2012.

After two years of dating, Svend proposed, and they got married at El Capitan Canyon in Santa Barbara in May 2012, with Katy standing by as a bridesmaid.

On social media, Katy Perry expressed her excitement for the couple’s wedding:

“Shoutout to my big sister for tying the knot this weekend, and a huge thank you to Amsale for our gorgeous bridesmaid dresses. We felt like fairies!”

Angela and Svend welcomed two daughters, born in February 2014 and September 2016.

In 2018, the sisters combined their efforts to establish the Firework Foundation, aiming to provide access to music and arts for underprivileged youths.

Reflecting on her own childhood struggles in a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Katy articulated her motivations for starting the foundation:

“I can talk about food stamps and food banks; I once busked as a teenager just to scrape together $20. That’s part of my story.”

Angela, as president of the organization, emphasized its purpose:

“It’s crucial for them to realize that we didn’t come from wealth either. Katy had to work incredibly hard to reach where she is today.”

The sisters collaborate closely in their nonprofit endeavors, ensuring that they support each child throughout their educational journeys.

“If in a hundred years nobody remembers Katy Perry but knows what the Firework Foundation achieved, then I will feel fulfilled,” Katy stated.

Angela has joined Katy on various red carpets, including notable events such as the Baby2Baby Gala in 2019, the 35th Annual Colleagues Spring Luncheon & Oscar de la Renta Fashion Show in April 2024, and the Variety’s Power of Women event in September 2021.

In a 2021 Variety interview, Katy acknowledged Angela as the most impactful woman in her life, stating:

“Angela embodies great ethics and values. She prioritizes her family above all else and has been instrumental in launching the Firework Foundation.”

In a 2012 interview with InTouch Weekly, David reflected on how his sisters responded to his initial musical projects:

“Katy was swamped with her work, but after I pressed her to listen, she bombarded me with messages: ‘Did you write this?’ ‘Is that really your voice?’ ‘How did you get access to a studio?’ The reactions from my sisters mean a lot to me; I admire and love them.”

David shares his siblings’ commitment to philanthropy. Discussing his aspirations in a 2012 interview with Peter Dee (via Mix 931), he stated:

“I wish for everything I involve myself in to benefit people in need globally, not solely through finances, but by encouraging others to volunteer and engage with me.”

David attended the 2014 Grammy Awards with Katy as her date and also supported her during the 2008 album release party for “One of the Boys.”

Katy, Angela, and David were all featured in the 2012 documentary “Katy Perry: Part of Me,”which showcased Katy’s rise from a conservative background to becoming a global pop sensation.
