The mother of four revealed that it wasn’t until her daughter began exploring their Korean heritage that she connected with her own culture.

During a confessional segment in season 18, episode 2 of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Katie reflected on her experiences growing up in a Catholic household in Georgia:

“I definitely felt different while growing up with my family. We didn’t engage with Korean culture or cuisine, but my daughter Kaili has shown a strong desire to learn about her Korean heritage. She has even taught herself to read and speak Korean.”

This season, Katie expressed her aspirations to reconnect with her roots, reflect on her childhood years, and possibly travel to South Korea to meet her birth mother. She shared these intentions with her friends in the recently aired episode 14 of season 18, which premiered on October 10, 2024.

In an exclusive interview with Bravo TV on October 10, 2024, Katie revealed that visiting her birth mother had long been a dream. However, she faced personal challenges that required delaying the visit.

Now, as she enters her forties, Katie feels “determined”to finally take this “magical”journey—a long-standing wish on her bucket list. She elaborated:

“My husband and I are currently planning our trip. Unfortunately, my father-in-law passed away, which caused us to pause our plans. I’m eager to go back and see where I came from; that would be truly magical for me.”

Katie also took time to contemplate her childhood, reflecting on how little she knew about her own culture. Now, she feels compelled to complete the missing pieces of her identity. The Real Housewives of Orange County star shared that she and her daughter are actively working together to deepen their understanding of South Korean culture. She remarked:

“I mentioned a bit about my adoption experience during a dinner with the women in London. I feel like my life is like a beautiful puzzle, but there’s one piece missing. I really want to find that piece to feel complete.”

The upcoming episodes promise to delve deeper into Katie’s quest to reunite with her birth mother.
