How to remember old tricks in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet doesn’t have a Move Retraining Assistant or a Move Tutor from previous games, so players can teach Pokémon their old moves themselves. This is especially useful for Pokémon that evolve with an item like an evolution stone, as they could learn all kinds of moves that Pokémon have already gone through. This is all done in the Pokémon Summary menu, and here is everything players need to know about how to remember old moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

One of the biggest quality of life improvements from Pokémon Legends Arceus is back for Scarlet & Violet. To teach Pokémon old moves, all players have to do is navigate to the Pokémon whose moves they want to remember and go to their summary. In their party, players can select a Pokémon and press A to access additional options. Clicking “Check Summary” will take you to a menu where you can view the summary, moves, stats, and memories of the Pokémon. Pressing “Right” from “Summary” will take players to “Pokémon Moves”.

Pressing A will give players the option to remember moves, forget moves, or use TM. The Remember option will list all Pokémon Moves that are high enough to learn. If a move is unlocked later by leveling up, it will not be listed. Any Tier 1 moves, such as moves that Pokémon learn through evolution or otherwise, will also be listed. For example, Scizor can be obtained at any time after the exchange of Scyther for Metal Coat and offer to learn Bullet Punch. When choosing to remember other moves, it will display all the moves it could learn at level 1, such as agility, wing attack, and fake flapping.
