If you haven’t installed Windows 11 yet, you’ll have to upgrade to Windows 11 in order to install the update on your PC. The update does not make older PCs compatible with Windows 11, so you may have to buy a new PC to use Windows 11 or follow the steps to install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC.

As usual, Microsoft is slowly offering the update to more and more Windows 11 PCs. If it’s available to install on your PC, you can go to Settings > Window Update and you’ll see a Download and Install button below the message ” Windows 11 version 22H2 is available.” Click this button to install the update.

If the update has not yet been offered to your PC on Windows Update, you can download and run the Windows 11 Setup Assistant from Microsoft. Click the Download Now button under the Windows 11 Setup Assistant and run the downloaded file. It will offer to automatically update your PC to the latest version of Windows 11, even if it hasn’t been offered to you through Windows Update yet.

Warning. If you choose to download the Setup Assistant, you will skip Microsoft’s gradual rollout process and increase the chance that you will encounter upgrade errors on your PC. If you’re not ready to accept this, you should wait until an update is offered on Windows Update – depending on how things are going, this could be a few weeks or a few months after release.

We’ve been using the Windows 11 22H2 Preview on multiple PCs for a few months now and have had a good experience. We hope that this will be a stable update that will not cause problems.
