The Last of Us season 2 introduces Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby

In The Last of Us season 2, Kaitlyn Dever will take on the role of Abby. Fans of the game will recognize Abby as the primary antagonist of The Last of Us: Part II, but she also serves as a protagonist in many ways. In the game, her actions lead to Joel’s murder, setting Ellie on a quest for revenge in Seattle.

Abby kills Joel because he murdered her father, Jerry, a Firefly doctor who was supposed to perform surgery on Ellie. When Jerry is killed, Abby, present in the hospital, learns of his death at the hands of Joel, igniting her quest for vengeance.

Joining the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), Abby trains for five years before gathering her friends and heading to Jackson to confront Joel. She ultimately succeeds in her mission and murders him in front of Ellie. However, while viewers may perceive her as the villain, the game’s narrative unveils a surprising twist that establishes her as a multi-dimensional character.

In the latter half of The Last of Us: Part II, players begin to control Abby, experiencing her journey. This segment provides insights into her motivations and her life within the WLF, featuring interactions with friends like Owen, Manny, and Mel.

Abby’s story intertwines with her bond with two Seraphite children, Yara and Lev, who belong to a religious extremist faction and are seeking to escape their oppressive clan. Ultimately, her narrative converges with Ellie’s.
