“Just found out I’m not hot”: SNL woman responds to viral TikTok video which claimed the show has “never hired” attractive women

Despite the claims made in a viral TikTok video by Jahelis Castillo, SNL cast member Sarah Sherman has made it clear that the show has always prioritized hiring talented women rather than solely focusing on physical appearance.

On the platform, Sarah, also known as Sarah Squirm, shared Castillo’s video and playfully expressed regret for not being attractive.

“I just found out I’m not hot. Please give me and my family space to grieve privately and uglily at this time.”She wrote.

The cast of SNL specifically reacted to a portion of the video in which Castillo made the following statement:

“I’m not saying that every single woman who has been a cast member of SNL is ugly, it’s just that none of them have ever been like, hot… They all just kind of have looks that eventually grow on you.”

Jahelis Castillo’s Thoughts on SNL Cast Members

In her TikTok video, Jahelis Castillo expressed her opinion that none of the women who have appeared on SNL throughout the years are attractive. She specifically mentioned Heidi Gardner as an example, noting that she frequently appears in skits and is often portrayed as “extremely attractive but not very intelligent.”

“The point of the joke is that she’s super pretty and it always makes me laugh because like no offense to her but she’s not that pretty.”Castillo said.

After stating that the girl was not attractive, she went on to say that the show might have chosen someone else for the role. She also commented on the common misconception that “super beautiful women”are not funny and are often seen as unintelligent.

Jahelis also clarified that the girls in question do not comprehend the underlying reason behind their comedic appearance, as each joke they make is intended to be extremely self-deprecating.

“I think I said this about City Sweeney but I also feel like for humor with women like you have to be for you to be considered funny you have to be more funny than you are hot and if you’re more hot than you are funny, then it boils down to you just not being funny at all.”She added.

In addition to Jimmy Fallon and Jason Sudeikis, she provided examples of other personalities and referred to them as “hot.”The video then shifted its focus to the female cast members of SNL, where Castillo praised Maya Rudolph’s beauty and stated:

“The rest of them are all pretty average looking women.”

Despite Sarah Sherman already sharing her viewpoint on Castillo’s words, Chloe Troast also voiced her opinion on the matter.

Troast posted a TikTok video of herself singing Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful. In addition, she emphasized the importance of being funny over being attractive in a statement, stating:

“And if you’re more hot than you are funny, then it boils down to you just not being funny at all.”

In the midst of the controversy surrounding her video, Castillo reached out to Newsweek via email to address the situation. She acknowledged that she could have expressed herself more clearly to prevent any issues and took responsibility for the responses she has received. She stated:

“I have received comments calling me ugly, fat, a trunk full of radically charged insults, etc. I stopped reading the comments so I’m not sure what other creative ways they’ve thought to insult me.”

Castillo explained that she has been labeled a “bad feminist”for not openly admiring someone’s appearance, revealing society’s reluctance to empower women. She also admitted to offending certain “white women,”resulting in backlash and refusing to apologize for her actions.
