Julianne Hough Comments on Anna Delvey’s Elimination from Dancing with the Stars: A Strong Advocate for Grace and Second Chances

The premiere of Dancing with the Stars season 33 episode 2, titled Oscars Nights, aired on September 24. This popular ABC reality show pairs celebrities with professional ballroom dancers, showcasing their performances live to both judges and a studio audience. Each week, teams are eliminated based on scores from expert judges and viewer votes.

In this episode, Anna Delvey and her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, faced elimination. When host Julianne Hough asked Delvey about her experience on the show and what she would take away from it, her response was that she would take “nothing” .

In a following interview with People on September 27, Julianne Hough reflected on Delvey’s brief comment, noting that her reaction seemed “very neutral.” Hough expressed her belief in granting individuals the benefit of the doubt and a second chance to redeem themselves, also acknowledging Delvey’s bravery for participating despite her controversial past.

“I’m always a big believer in grace and second chances and showing up,” Hough stated.

Hough’s remarks hinted that Delvey’s comment might have been a sarcastic take on her public image and not intended to be taken seriously:

“I also heard somewhere that she was actually being silly and very literal about that, with her history. So there was that.”

Dancing with the Stars: Anna Delvey’s Elimination and Reaction

During the second episode of Dancing with the Stars season 33, Anna Delvey and her dance partner Ezra Sosa were among the first teams to be eliminated, alongside Tori Spelling and her partner Pasha Pashkov.

In the Oscars Nights episode, Delvey and Sosa showcased their dance routine to the theme song from The Devil Wears Prada, “Suddenly I See”by KT Tunstall. Sosa creatively choreographed the routine to highlight Delvey’s detached demeanor, even playfully stretching her lips to create a forced smile during their performance.

Upon hearing the results, Delvey reiterated her stance to Julianne Hough, stating she would take “nothing” from her time on the show, which left Sosa somewhat surprised yet smiling. Co-host Alfonso Ribeiro responded jokingly:

“You had fun, stop it.”

Julianne Hough shared Delvey’s exit interview on her Instagram, calling her response “iconic.”

“There you have it….. ICONIC 🤣☠️,” Hough captioned the post.

In response to Hough’s post, Sosa defended Delvey, suggesting her comment was intended to be sarcastic:

“I think she was referring to anything you’d be taking away ‘physically,’” Sosa commented.

While many of Delvey’s fellow contestants were supportive of her response, judge Carrie Ann Inaba expressed a different perspective. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, published on September 25, Inaba conveyed her surprise at Delvey’s lack of gratitude during her exit interview.

“As for Anna, I was taken aback by her comment when asked what she learned from being on the show, and she flatly said, ‘Nothing,’” Inaba stated.

Inaba felt that Delvey’s words overlooked the opportunities presented to her, her supportive partner Ezra, and the entire production team that contributed to the show.

“We all put in the effort to give her a fair opportunity. But I don’t think she could see that, and it’s a shame. A little gratitude could have changed the narrative,”

Mark your calendars, as Dancing with the Stars season 33 episode 3 will air on ABC on October 1, 2024.
