Jujutsu Kaisen delves deeply into the abilities and statistics of its characters, often sidelining their personal lives due to the overarching plot. Thankfully, Gege Akutami provides fans insights into these characters in Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Character Guide.
This guide offers a plethora of behind-the-scenes knowledge, including character interviews, extensive Q&As, and commentary on various chapters. What kind of juicy details can fans expect from this guide? Are any of the Jujutsu High instructors in relationships? Who excels in the kitchen? And who struggles with alcohol? Let’s explore these curious questions!
Please note, Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Character Guide covers the events and character backgrounds from volumes 1-15.
Status of Jujutsu High’s Students and Faculty
One Faculty Member Is Divorced
In season 2, episode 30, titled “It’s Like That,”fans witnessed Nobara and Megumi attempting to pair Yuji with Yuka, alongside Mechamaru’s unrequited feelings for Miwa, showcasing a hint of romance. But how does the wider faculty landscape look?
According to Akutami, Masamichi Yaga is the only faculty member who has ever been married, but currently, he is divorced. Particulars about his former partner remain undisclosed.
In fact, all other faculty and students at Jujutsu High are confirmed to be single. This has its advantages; they easily manage their own cooking and cleaning responsibilities (SatoSugus and YutaMaki fans, unfortunately, remain without affirmation).
Fans looking for insights into specific characters will be intrigued by Nobara Kugisaki’s preference in partners. When questioned about her ideal type, Akutami playfully referenced Oda Nobunaga, a fierce leader with a short temper and martial prowess—quite fitting for Kugisaki’s bold nature.
The guide also humorously indicates that many characters possess weak flirting skills. For instance, Akutami notes that Itadori was not particularly popular in high school due to the inability of interested girls to express their feelings, leaving him oblivious to any affections directed towards him.
Similarly, Megumi Fushigoro struggles with dating; when asked how he would politely reject someone, he simply stated, “I’m sorrrrrrrrrrrrrry,”highlighting his lack of social finesse.
Yuji Itadori’s Hidden Talents
He’s a Wiz in the Kitchen
Yuji Itadori is widely celebrated for his physical prowess and capabilities as a vessel, but he harbors several additional skills. In volume 2, Akutami revealed that during a karaoke session known as Juju Stroll, Itadori proved to be the best singer among his friends.
Moreover, Yuji excels in the culinary arts. When asked who cooks better between Itadori, Fushigoro, and Kugisaki during a group Q&A, Akutami responded:
- Q: Itadori is the best cook among the first-years, but which is the better cook between Fushigoro and Kugisaki?
- A: They’re about the same. Both can cook reasonably well.
Satoru Gojo’s Drinking Habits
One of the more amusing revelations from Akutami’s “Group Character Q & A”pertains to the drinking habits of Jujutsu High’s faculty. Each drinking category was assigned a first- and second-place winner based on their tendencies.
Category | First Place | Runner-up |
---|---|---|
Heaviest Drinker | This is the word | Kento Nanami |
Sloppiest Drinker | Utahime Iori | Naobito Zenin |
Lightweight | Satoru Gojo | – |
Despite being one of the most formidable sorcerers in the series, Gojo’s inability to handle alcohol is a surprising twist. This oddity could be explained by his heightened senses associated with the Six Eyes technique, which might amplify the effects of alcohol on him.
Interestingly, Akutami’s rankings reveal that Utahime, rather than Naobito, is the messiest drinker, a surprising twist considering Naobito’s drunken escapades during the Shibuya Incident.
Lastly, Shoko and Kento are recognized as the heaviest drinkers, likely due to their ability to maintain composure despite their alcohol intake. Notably, Shoko’s smoking habit correlates with her drinking, as studies, such as those from the National Institute of Health, indicate smokers are more inclined to drink compared to non-smokers.
