Game Structure and Future Plans

In a comprehensive update via their Steam blog, the Crosswind development team confirmed that the game is primarily a survival adventure, while an MMO aspect is planned for future updates. The game is structured around a player-controlled world interspersed with shared zones, creating a dynamic gameplay experience.

Player-Centric World

Each player inhabits their own unique world where the main narrative unfolds. This vast archipelago features a dozen islands, each with diverse biomes, resources, enemies, and hidden secrets. While much of the environment is procedurally generated, select points of interest are handcrafted to enhance exploration. Players have total control over their world, choosing whether to keep it private or inviting friends to join them for crafting, building, or combat adventures.

Shared Zones for MMO Elements

The MMO features will manifest in shared zones that enable various PvE and PvP activities. As players progress in the main storyline, they will unlock the ability to travel to other players’ shared areas. Notably, an early prototype of the famous Tortuga will be included in the upcoming playtest. Additional zones and activities, including a naval PvP area, are scheduled for future updates, enhancing the MMO aspects of Crosswind. The developers view PvP as an optional addition, emphasizing the importance of thorough implementation for an enjoyable experience.
