John Amos’ Children: Daughter Shannon Amos Shares How She Discovered Her Father’s Passing Through the News
Shannon Amos, the daughter of the late actor John Amos, recently disclosed that she learned of her father’s passing through the media. In a heartfelt post on her official Instagram, Shannon expressed that the family was completely unaware that Amos had died on August 21, 2024.
The caption continued:
“We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you. This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions…”
Shannon also expressed her gratitude for the kind wishes the family received after the news broke. On October 1, John Amos’ son, K.C. Amos, revealed the news of his demise. K.C. confirmed that the 84-year-old actor passed away due to natural causes.
John Amos is survived by his two children, K.C. and Shannon. Born in New Jersey, Shannon grew up immersed in Hollywood, often visiting the sets of iconic films and sitcoms like Good Times and Coming To America.
According to IMDb, it was John who encouraged her to understand the business side of the entertainment industry. She later became a segment producer for the series America’s Most Wanted. K.C. Amos, born in 1970, is a multi-talented director, actor, producer, and writer. In 1995, he wrote, directed, and produced the short film Syphon Gun, and in 2004, he collaborated with his sister Shannon and late father on The Watermelon Heist.
Shannon Amos’ Previous Allegations Against Her Brother K.C.
In November 2023, The Hollywood Reporter published an article discussing family issues surrounding the late actor. The main conflict reportedly existed between Shannon and K.C., wherein Shannon accused K.C. of financial exploitation and elder abuse.
K.C. has denied the claims made by his sister regarding their father. Furthermore, in July 2023, police reports indicated that K.C. was jailed after Shannon alleged that he had sent her “terroristic”messages, making her feel threatened.
The November article noted that John Amos had voiced his concerns about the family’s issues being aired publicly, stating:
“Whatever we’re going through is our business, not the business of the public.”
Shannon also accused K.C. of impersonating their late father in various communications and mishandling his finances. K.C. has consistently denied these allegations.
Shannon has previously characterized her father as being strict yet funny. In a 2021 interview with AmoMama, she reflected,
“He was always strict, but he was also very funny and super adventurous. As a child, I just saw what he did as a job, but as I got older, I began to see how many lives he impacted through his role as a strong Black man and father.”
Despite occasional turbulence in their relationship, particularly around issues related to the medical care he was receiving, Shannon consistently expressed admiration for her father.
John Amos passed away on August 21, 2024. In a statement to CNN following his father’s death, K.C. described John as “a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold.”
