Joel Embiid Injury Update: NBA Insider provides positive news on former MVP’s ahead of OKC Thunder
Despite a strong start to the season, Joel Embiid was forced to take a break due to an injury sustained against the Golden State Warriors. However, there has been a recent positive update on his status after weeks of being sidelined.
According to reports on Monday morning, it is anticipated that Embiid will make his comeback sometime this week. Shams Charania has reported that the Philadelphia 76ers star’s first game back in the lineup will be against the OKC Thunder on Tuesday.
Joel Embiid has been in the process of healing from a knee injury sustained at the end of January. The injury took place when Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga landed awkwardly on him during a struggle for a loose ball.
Despite suffering an injury, Embiid was having an exceptional offensive season. In addition to a string of impressive performances with 30 points and 10 rebounds, the current MVP surpassed his personal record with a remarkable 70-point game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite playing in 35 games this year, Embiid’s impressive averages of 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists may not make him eligible for seasonal awards like MVP or All-NBA due to the NBA’s new 65-game rule. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, Embiid’s chances of receiving these accolades are slim.
