On October 11, Jim Parsons made an appearance on the Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace show on Max, where he reflected on his famous role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. He described his experience portraying the quirky theoretical physicist as the “most insane, fortunate blessing”of his career.
When Chris Wallace broached the subject of a potential reboot of The Big Bang Theory, Parsons indicated that he currently has no plans for such a project. He noted:
“As we sit here now, no, but I also would, I never say never to anything because life changes so much.”
The actor expressed appreciation for the unique quality of the sitcom, emphasizing that this is one of the reasons he feels hesitant about revisiting the series. He elaborated:
“One of the things is that it was so special as what it was…as what it is. And they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be certain it wouldn’t be that. And so why would we be doing it? I don’t know…that’s how I feel on that right now.”
Nonetheless, Jim Parsons emphasized that “life is very long”and he isn’t ruling out a reboot in the future; it’s just not on the table at this moment.
Jim Parsons on the Blessings of Playing Sheldon
During the interview, Chris Wallace further probed Jim Parsons about his experience playing Sheldon Cooper. Wallace wanted to know if Parsons viewed the role as a blessing or a curse. The actor confidently responded:
“I feel pretty strongly that it’s almost, if not totally, 100% bleeding at this point.”
Parsons admitted, however, that his perspective might have been different years ago. He made a brief return as Sheldon in the finale of Young Sheldon, describing this cameo as a “perfect coda on the end of that entire beautiful experience.”
In May, while speaking to E! News about the prospects of a sequel to The Big Bang Theory, Parsons humorously stated that it would take “reincarnation…[in the] next lifetime.”When pressed about the likelihood of a sequel, he reiterated the importance of keeping options open, but he does not foresee it happening anytime soon. He fondly recalled his experience appearing in Young Sheldon, saying:
“It was very, very special to do that. The feeling today is kind of odd, you know? It’s the second time now because when we ended The Big Bang Theory, it felt like this, too. A little bit different.”
Jim Parsons portrayed Sheldon Cooper throughout all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory from 2007 until 2019 alongside his co-stars Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, and Mayim Bialik. The series garnered numerous Primetime Emmy Awards, including four Outstanding Lead Actor awards for Parsons himself.
In the finale of Young Sheldon, he made a special appearance alongside his co-star and on-screen partner, Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy Farah Fowler.
