More about Netflix’s popular reality Korean cooking show, Culinary Class Wars
Culinary Class Wars premiered on Netflix on September 17, 2024. This cooking reality shows features around 100 culinary chefs, split into two teams: the White Spoons and the Black Spoons. This classification reflects a Korean cultural saying, where a “black spoon”indicates a beggar, while a “white spoon”implies someone born into wealth.
A total of eighty contestants, each skilled in diverse cuisines, earned the title of Black Spoon based on the show’s criteria. In contrast, twenty acclaimed and Michelin-starred chefs were designated as the White Spoon chefs, who received a direct pass to the first round due to their established reputations in the culinary industry.
The judging panel includes South Korea’s celebrity chef Paik Jong-won and Ahn Sung-jae, the nation’s only three Michelin-star chef and owner of Mosu Seoul.
Each Black Spoon chef received a unique nickname from the show, such as Cooking Maniac, Triple Star, Auntie Omakase #1, Comic Book Chef, Master of School Meals, etc.
Cooking Maniac was also a contestant on MasterChef Korea season 4 and currently operates a popular wine and bar restaurant in Seoul called Deepin.
