Jessi’s Alleged Fan Assault Scandal Update: Police Interrogation Insights, DOD Contract Termination, Public Backlash & Key Details

Jessi, the South Korean rapper known for her solo acts, has found herself at the center of a controversy after an associate allegedly assaulted a male fan. On October 14, 2024, Sports Chosun reported that during an episode of JTBC’s CRIME CHIEF news segment, a male fan recounted how he was punched by someone close to Jessi when he approached her for a photo.

In response, Jessi took to Instagram on October 15 to express her regrets about the incident. She mentioned that she reached out to both the fan and his mother to apologize personally, ensuring them that appropriate actions would be taken against the individual responsible for the assault.

Following this, on October 16, Jessi was called in for questioning at the Gangnam Police Station, reportedly undergoing interrogation for six hours. During this session, she denied having any prior knowledge of the person who allegedly attacked the fan.

Jessi explained that while she was with her friends, the victim approached her for a photo, which she declined politely on two occasions. However, out of nowhere, the assailant struck the fan, and she only became acquainted with the attacker that day. Outside the police station, she told reporters:

“I hope they find the person who hit him quickly and that he gets punished. I will speak honestly about everything. I saw him for the first time. I’m really sorry.”

On October 18, CCTV footage emerged, capturing the moment the fan approached Jessi. The video shows her bowing and refusing the photo request, immediately before the assailant—who was distanced from her group—walked over and hit the fan. Jessi promptly got up to intervene and stop the altercation before the footage ended.

DOD Entertainment cuts ties with Jessi amid the scandal

In the midst of this evolving situation, DOD Entertainment, which had recently signed Jessi just a month prior, announced the termination of her contract. On October 18, 2024, the agency issued a statement addressing the controversy, offering an apology for the distress it caused to fans:

“Once again, we apologize for the recent unfortunate incident that has caused concern among fans. After thorough discussions regarding Jessi’s future activities, we have mutually decided to end her exclusive contract as of October 18, 2024.”

They added:

“Although our partnership was brief, we appreciate the time Jessi spent working with us and will continue to robustly support her in her future endeavors.”

As if the situation couldn’t get worse, another controversy emerged for Jessi when a photo surfaced online showing her kissing music producer Koala, further complicating her situation. This photo allegedly came from Koala’s social media, which included images of him affectionately interacting with the rapper.

For context, music producer Koala has already faced scrutiny due to his involvement in the ongoing fan assault investigation. Many Korean netizens have expressed their indignation towards Jessi, calling for her to leave the industry or even exit the country altogether.

In a related note, the rapper known for hits like “Cold Blooded”and “NUNU NANA”had just established her own label, UNNI, on September 21, 2024, after her signing with DOD Entertainment.
