Jerry Rice sets record straight on Julian Edelman taking his daughter out to prom and wearing 49ers icon’s Super Bowl rings

Jerry Rice has four children, with the oldest being Jaqui (born 1987). It was revealed in a recent episode of New Heights that Jaqui had previously dated former Julian Edelman.

According to former New England Patriots’ postseason hero, he admitted to playing with the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl rings when he was alone. However, during an interview on the All Facts No Brakes podcast (22:30), Rice told Keyshawn Johnson and his son Keyshawn Jr. that he is unsure if this was actually true.

“I remember (Edelman) coming over to the house. I remember them going to the prom together. And him being around. And he was exceptional.

“You know, when he played ball and all that. But my (Super Bowl) rings, I have always had my rings locked up. So unless my daughter knew the combination, you know.”

Jerry Rice Settles Joe Montana-Steve Young Debate and Reflects on Super Bowl XXXVII Loss

During the Jerry Rice era, two quarterbacks had the opportunity to play alongside him. The first was Joe Montana in the 1980s, hailed as one of the greatest passers of his time and renowned for his composure in high-pressure situations. Following him in the 1990s was Steve Young, a left-handed quarterback known for his exceptional agility and mobility on the field.

Both of them are in the Hall of Fame and have won multiple Super Bowl championships, with at least one Super Bowl MVP title. However, they were also involved in one of the most intense intra-team rivalries that the NFL has ever witnessed. Therefore, when it comes to their long career as wide receivers, which one was the superior player?

During the same episode, Jerry Rice stated:

“Joe Montana and I, we had such chemistry. If Joe was a female, we would have dated.”

In addition, Rice reflected on the Oakland Raiders’ loss to Keyshawn Johnson’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. As a reminder, he spent 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before joining the other side of the Bay and experiencing a resurgence in the 2002-03 season. This ultimately led to him being named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler for the last time in his career.

Despite claims made by former Raiders players, such as fellow Hall of Fame wideout Tim Brown, it is alleged that then-coach Bill Callahan purposely threw the game out of respect for his friend and former overlord, Jon Gruden. This trade occurred during the offseason, with the Buccaneers acquiring Gruden in exchange for draft picks.

Despite being asked, Jerry Rice chose not to acknowledge the idea, instead repeating that his last-minute absence completely derailed their initial offensive strategy.

“We found out that our starting center (Barret Robbins) was found in a ditch in Mexico.

“We had a plan to run the ball.. .. it was just thrown out. And I still felt like we should have run the ball because we had (running backs) Charlie Garner and (Tyrone) Wheatley.”

After playing for just one and a half more seasons in Oakland, he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks and later retired following a short stint with the Denver Broncos.
