Jerry Rice reveals if he’ll make his son Brenden pull an Eli Manning in 2024 NFL Draft, following Deion Sanders’ comments
Brenden Rice, a wide receiver for USC, is the son of Jerry Rice, a legendary player for the 49ers. Next month in Detroit, he will be summoned to the stage by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
During a recent episode of the “All Facts No Brakes”podcast, Keyshawn Johnson interviewed Jerry Rice. One of the topics discussed was whether or not Rice would advise his son, Brenden, to follow in Eli Manning’s footsteps and decline playing for the team that drafted him. Rice’s response (at 28:03) was as follows:
“No, no, I wouldn’t do Brenden that way, Rice said. “Because, you know, I’m one of those guys that believe that anywhere you go if you work hard and if you lead by example, you’re going to have success.”
Rice was questioned about this in response to comments made by Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, who suggested that his son Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter may choose to follow in the footsteps of Eli Manning by declining to play for certain cities, particularly those with colder climates, if they are selected in next year’s draft.
Rice expressed that it is natural for a father to have wishes, but he wants to take a different approach when it comes to Brenden.
“As a father, I’m not going to say anything bad about that. But now that’s not something that I would do with Brenden. Whoever should draft him, he has to go in there and prove himself,. And also if he does that, I think he’s gonna be a great leader. And he’s gonna bring a lot of success to that team,”he added.

Brenden Rice, wide receiver for USC, is well aware of the spotlight that comes with his famous last name. In an interview on FS1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd, he opened up about the perks of being the son of Jerry Rice. However, Rice sees this as an opportunity to build his own legacy and considers it a blessing.
“You got to go ahead and take it as a blessing because our fathers were able to go ahead and create a legacy and pay paved the way for us. And now it’s all up to us about our work ethic and how we handle it.”

In 2022, Brenden Rice made the decision to move from the Colorado Buffaloes to the USC Trojans. Since joining the team, he has proven to be a valuable asset for Caleb Williams. In just two seasons at USC, Rice has accumulated 84 catches, 1402 receiving yards, an average of 16.7 yards per reception, and 16 touchdowns, showcasing significant improvement from his time at Colorado.
Rice possesses a robust physique and remarkable speed for his size. Several draft boards predict that he will be selected as a late-Day 2 draft pick.
