Jennie Reveals Why She’s Never Participated in a Dance Challenge: ‘No One Has Ever Invited Me’

Jennie from BLACKPINK Opens Up About Solo Debut Anxieties

Even the brightest stars in the music industry, like BLACKPINK’s Jennie, experience unease regarding their artistic endeavors. During a recent appearance on the Korean YouTube channel Ssook Ssook, the talented solo artist shared her apprehensions about her forthcoming debut single, titled Ruby.

Years of Hard Work

Jennie has dedicated over a year to crafting this project, a journey that coincided with her establishment of her own agency, Oddatelier, after parting ways with YG Entertainment. Despite her intensive preparation, she expressed a profound concern about the current state of the music industry.

Changing Landscape of Music

“I’ve worked hard on the music. But the world has changed so much, ” Jennie admitted, highlighting the challenges artists face in an age where merely releasing a song doesn’t guarantee listener engagement. She noted, “These days, just releasing a song doesn’t mean people will listen to it.”

The flood of new music and content can easily overshadow individual releases, leaving artists feeling overwhelmed.“So much content is coming out from everywhere. I want to do what my fans like, but I don’t know what that is, ” she disclosed.

Understanding the New Generation

Faced with a rapidly evolving music landscape, Jennie mentioned her daily meetings with her team, expressing concern over understanding the styles of younger artists.“There are so many younger generation artists now, and I find it hard to understand their style, ” she confessed.

Engaging Fans Through Dance Challenges

The Ssook Ssook production team proposed that Jennie consider creating a dance challenge, a viral marketing technique popularized on platforms like TikTok. This strategy has proven effective for many artists, including BTS, whose song “Dynamite”experienced immense success with a viral dance segment.

Despite her recognition of their impact, Jennie was candid about her unfamiliarity with this approach.“I’ve never properly done a challenge before. No one has ever asked me to do one with them, ” she remarked, highlighting her curiosity about how such collaborations typically come to be.

Unmet Expectations

The production team elaborated that these dance challenges often take place casually in the hallways of music show waiting rooms, leaving Jennie feeling disappointed at her missed opportunities.“Every time I go, there’s no one in the hallway. Am I just going on days when no one is there? I was hoping someone would ask me to do one together, but no one ever did, ” she lamented.

Looking Ahead

Excitingly, Jennie is set to make her solo debut with Ruby on March 7, paving the way for a new chapter in her illustrious career.
