Jeffrey Dean Morgan Expresses ‘Freaked Out’ Feelings About Returning as Negan in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2

Fans of The Walking Dead and its infamous character, Negan, are buzzing with excitement following the trailer for season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City, which showcases the villainous yet charismatic figure played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Returning to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, Morgan recently shared his emotional reaction upon reuniting with Lucille, his quintessential weapon—the barbed-wire bat that has become synonymous with his character.

The Journey Continues: Negan and Maggie’s Quest

The Walking Dead: Dead City is a compelling spin-off of the original series, focusing on the intertwining stories of Maggie and Negan as they navigate the treacherous landscape of New York City. Their mission? To rescue Maggie’s son, Hershel, from the ruthless antagonist known as The Croat. However, their journey is fraught with peril, not solely from the zombies that plague the city but also from human adversaries. The duo faces various threats, including a Wild-West-themed lawman named Armstrong and the menacing group known as The Burazi, introduced in season one.

In a recent interview with Collider, Morgan expressed his thrill at revisiting the role of Negan in the upcoming season. Reflecting on his reunion with Lucille, he described an emotional “freak-out”moment, revealing how much he missed his bat—not just as part of his character’s identity but personally as well. “Just getting to hold that damn bat again adds something to that character and the swagger and the confidence and the humor that Negan has,” he remarked.

Morgan shared insights into his possessive nature concerning Lucille, highlighting how he often took the bat with him during breaks on set. Unlike many cast members who returned their props after each scene, Morgan would keep Lucille close, saying, “She’d go to my trailer with me. She’d go to the bathroom with me. She’d get coffee. They named her after my wife, played by my wife, so it was always good.”

A Glimpse into Season Two and Streaming Info

The haunting whistle of Negan remains a prominent feature in the newly released trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City season two. While unanswered questions linger about whether Negan will revert to his past malevolence, the anticipation builds. The inaugural season, which premiered in 2023, consists of six episodes. Although details regarding the number of episodes for the second season are not confirmed, a similar count is expected.

For those eager to revisit season one, it will be available for streaming on Netflix starting January 13, alongside The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. While a specific release date for season two is yet to be announced, it is anticipated to arrive sometime in 2025.
