Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, is set to conclude his distinguished 15-year career with the company later this month, as announced in a recent press release. Sabih Khan, currently the Senior Vice President of Operations, has been named as Williams’ successor. This change signifies a shift in reporting structure, as Apple’s design team will from now on communicate directly with CEO Tim Cook, rather than through Williams.
Jeff Williams Will Maintain Leadership of Apple’s Design Team Until Retirement
Sabih Khan, who has dedicated 30 years to Apple, is praised as a brilliant strategist by Cook. He has played a vital role in developing Apple’s global supply chain and advancing technologies in manufacturing. His leadership is expected to usher in new innovations and strategies as he steps into this prominent position within the company.
Tim Cook expressed deep gratitude for Williams’ contributions, emphasizing that Apple is significantly shaped by his efforts. Under Williams’ guidance, Apple has developed one of the most renowned supply chains worldwide, and he has been instrumental in launching the Apple Watch, marking a noteworthy achievement in the company’s product lineup. Despite his upcoming retirement, Williams will continue leading the design team until he officially steps down later this year.
“Jeff and I have worked alongside each other for as long as I can remember, and Apple wouldn’t be what it is without him. He’s helped to create one of the most respected global supply chains in the world; launched Apple Watch and overseen its development; architected Apple’s health strategy; and led our world-class team of designers with great wisdom, heart, and dedication. I am and will always be beyond grateful for his numerous contributions to Apple over the years and his loyal friendship. Jeff’s true legacy can be seen in the amazing team he’s created and, while he’ll be greatly missed, he leaves the work of the future in incredible hands.”
Beyond the Apple Watch, Williams has significantly influenced the company’s health initiatives and was crucial in the launches of the iPod and iPhone, marking him as a pivotal figure in Apple’s identity. As he prepares to retire, the expectations for Khan will undoubtedly be high, as he inherits the challenges and responsibilities that come with these monumental roles.
