Jeff Bridges Provides Update on The Old Man Season 3 and Shares Upcoming Plans

The impending third season of The Old Man promises an intense narrative filled with dramatic twists, following the explosive conclusion of season 2, which aired on October 24, 2024. The preceding finale left viewers with shocking twists, evolving relationships, and precarious alliances, paving the way for numerous vibrant moments both thrilling and touching.

This gripping series is adapted from Thomas Perry’s 2017 novel, brought to life by the creative minds of Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, with production helmed by Judd Rea. The lineup of executive producers also includes Dan Shotz, Craig Silverstein, Warren Littlefield, and Ann Johnson, among others.

Originally premiering on FX on June 16, 2022, the first season captivated audiences and was followed by the second season, which debuted on September 12, 2024. However, as of now, the official confirmation of a third season remains outstanding.

Jeff Bridges, who embodies the character of CIA operative Dan Chase, teased the possibility of The Old Man returning for a third installment during an interview with Collider on October 24, 2024:

“I’m not sure if The Old Man has been renewed for a third season. We’re still in the dark on that. If it does happen, I’ll dive right into it.”

The season 2 finale left Emily and Chase determined to confront Marion in a bid to rescue the abducted Harold Harper. Though an official green light for The Old Man season 3 has yet to be announced, fans are eagerly anticipating updates from the cast.

Amy Brenneman, who portrays Zoe McDonald, expressed her beliefs about the potential for a third season in an October 2024 appearance on the Bingeworthy podcast. She noted, “It would be rather strange if another season didn’t materialize,”and elaborated:

“Jonathan E. Steinberg has always envisioned this as a three-act play. It feels like Season 2 is right in the middle of an exciting storytelling journey, with characters developing in unique ways.”

Conversely, Bridges remained quiet about possible plotlines for the anticipated third season during his conversation with Collider. He added that he will “begin working on”The Old Man season 3 if it receives the much-anticipated approval.

On a different note, Bridges also discussed a new acting venture:

“I’m currently involved in an intriguing project named Grendel, which focuses on the monster from Beowulf. It should be an engaging endeavor. Beyond that, I don’t have much more information.”

The FX series begins with former CIA agent Dan Chase under the radar of his former colleague, Harold Harper, the FBI Assistant Director. After going into exile for three decades, Chase remains in Vermont, living under various pseudonyms.

The complexities of their history are intertwined with FBI agent Emily, also known as Angela, whom Chase had raised briefly before her adoption by Harper.

As the plot unfolds, both men discover that Emily has been taken captive by Afghan warlord Faraz Hamzad, leading them to collaborate on a mission to rescue her. The plot thickens when it’s unveiled that Hamzad is actually Emily’s biological father, whose real name is Parwana Hamzad.

By the conclusion of season 2, Emily reconnects with Chase to assist in locating Harper, who has been taken hostage by his former spouse, Marion. Although initially hesitant, Chase agrees to help after realizing Emily wields more influence than he had previously acknowledged.
