Jason Momoa Returns to the DC Universe in a New Role as a Distinct Character

Jason Momoa Transitions from Aquaman to Lobo in the DC Universe

Jason Momoa, once renowned for his portrayal of Aquaman within the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), has become a beloved figure in comic book adaptations. His charismatic performance led to two successful solo films, Aquaman and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, with the dissolution of the DCEU, fans may have feared that they had seen the last of Momoa’s aquatic hero.

Introducing Lobo: A New Character for Momoa

Fans of Momoa can breathe easy—he’s not stepping away from the DC realm entirely. The actor will be making a striking return in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but this time he’ll be embracing a distinctly different character: Lobo. Originally created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in the 1980s, Lobo is a notorious bounty hunter and anti-hero from the planet Czarnia, infamous for being the last of his kind, having wiped out his entire species.

While Lobo may not be the most likable character, his outrageous personality and wild adventures have made him a fan favorite in comic book lore. Momoa has expressed a longstanding passion for this role, stating that he has always envisioned himself as Lobo.

“So Lobo was … I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” he remarked. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*** yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

Momoa’s enthusiasm for the character is palpable, as demonstrated by a cheeky comment where he quipped, “They called” —alluding to confirmed news about his casting.

Exciting Developments in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

As confirmed by Deadline, Jason Momoa is officially set to portray Lobo. This casting decision is sure to thrill fans. In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, audiences will also see Milly Alcock take on the role of Supergirl, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, who will play the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. Craig Gillespie is on board as the director.

Future Projects to Look Forward To

Additionally, Jason Momoa fans can look forward to seeing him in his upcoming project, A Minecraft Movie, where he plays a character named Garrett and also serves as a producer. This film is scheduled for release in April 2025.

This exciting reimagining of Momoa’s career is just the beginning as he embraces the complex and humorous character of Lobo, promising a fresh take within the expanding DC universe.
