Overview of Recent Apex Legends Update
- The latest update resolves issues with voice and text chat in lobbies.
- Lifeline’s D.O.C. Tactical drone no longer detects a cloaked Mirage.
- Fixes have been applied to the visual effects of reactive skins.
Respawn Entertainment has rolled out a fresh update for Apex Legends, addressing several gameplay issues. While this update may not be as extensive as the mid-season patch released on January 7, it is designed to enhance the experience for players encountering specific problems.
Following a quieter debut for Season 23 compared to its predecessors, recent weeks have seen significant developments in the game. The mid-season update introduced various buffs and nerfs, revitalizing the gameplay dynamics. Shortly after, this new patch was released to target lingering issues that were impacting player enjoyment.
Date-stamped January 16, the update tackled numerous lobby problems, notably fixing the failures of voice and text chat as well as several visual glitches in PC lobbies. Additionally, an issue where Lifeline’s D.O.C. would expose a cloaked Mirage has been corrected. This issue became particularly critical due to Mirage’s enhanced cloaking ability, making Lifeline one of the most commonly selected Legends in the roster and causing potential gameplay disruptions.

In addition to gameplay fixes, the update resolved issues related to cosmetics. Specifically, the visual effects for reactive skins are now functioning correctly, overcoming a prior bug that affected weapon switching. Furthermore, the Attrition G7 Scout skin has been temporarily withdrawn from the game due to another bug, although a timeline for its return remains unspecified.
While this recent update brings welcomed relief to affected players, the community is eagerly anticipating future enhancements. With approximately one month until the arrival of Season 24, Respawn has teased immediate plans, including a crossover event with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth set for January 21. This event will feature returning cosmetics inspired by the Square Enix title, as well as a Prestige skin for Alter. Furthermore, Materia Hop-Ups will be making a return alongside the Buster Sword R2R5.
These upcoming changes may play a vital role in improving player sentiment as some have expressed discontent with the current state of the game, particularly following noticeable declines in player counts on platforms like Steam. Respawn is actively looking for new ways to retain and re-engage the player base.
