Jannik Sinner beats his own record to achieve highest performance rating of 2024 in Miami Open final against Grigor Dimitrov
In the final of the Miami Open against Grigor Dimitrov, Jannik Sinner surpassed his previous record and achieved a performance rating of 2024, the highest of the tournament.
The final of the Miami Open on Sunday, March 31 featured a match between the second seed Sinner and the 11th seed Dimitrov. Along the way to the final, the Italian defeated top players such as Daniil Medvedev and Tomas Machac, while the Bulgarian overcame challenges from Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Hubert Hurkacz to secure a spot in the final showdown.
Despite being just 22 years old, the player delivered an outstanding performance, dominating the final and securing the Miami Open title with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory. This marked his first ever win at the tournament and his third appearance in the final (2021, 2023, and 2024). The impressive win also means that Sinner will overtake Alcaraz in the rankings and become the new World No. 2.
In the Miami Open final, the Italian player achieved a remarkable performance rating of 9.63 according to Tennis TV and Tennis Insights. This is the highest rating earned by any player in 2024, with the tour average standing at 7.57 for comparison.
An intriguing observation is that Sinner surpassed his previous performance rating of 9.52, which had been his personal best when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.

The beginning of 2024 has proved to be a successful time for Jannik Sinner, as he has secured his third title of the year. His victory at the Miami Open has also earned him the title of World No. 2, following his previous win at the Australian Open.
Sinners conveyed satisfaction in handling both on and off-court scenarios throughout the week. In an interview with Sky Sports following the game, he stated:
“It has been a very special week for me. I’ve faced very different kinds of situations on the court, different opponents, even for a semifinal and a final there are two different opponents but I guess I managed the situation really well on the court and off the court which is really important.”
The Italian acknowledged that while he was pleased with being ranked as the World No. 2, he recognized that it was merely a numerical designation. He emphasized that the most crucial aspect was to effectively implement his game strategy, which he has successfully done thus far.
“I was full of energy today and I think that’s it I am obviously very happy to be number 2 in the world. I knew this already before the semifinal, but number 2 is just a number, for me, the most important thing is to try to execute my game plans in the best possible way which I’ve done so I’m very happy and pleased.”
