Dave Franco has recently revealed insights into the potential for a sequel to the 2022 Netflix film, Day Shift. In this action-comedy, Jamie Foxx portrayed Bud Jablonski, a vampire hunter masquerading as an ordinary worker. While the film enjoyed favorable audience reception, it faced criticism from reviewers for its humor and narrative coherence. Notably, Day Shift offered numerous Easter eggs that delighted fans, achieving a Popcornmeter score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet only a 57% on the Tomatometer.
During an interview at the Sundance Film Festival with Grant Hermanns from Screen Rant, Franco discussed his thoughts on a possible sequel. He initially focused on his upcoming project, Bubble & Squeak, before transitioning to the topic of Day Shift. Franco noted that “there’s whispers“about a sequel, but he acknowledged that it’s still an uncertain endeavor. He expressed a strong desire to reunite with Foxx for a follow-up, though he added that he is “not holding my breath.”His quote reflects both hope and the reality of the situation:
There’s whispers, there’s whispers. We’ll see. I’m not holding my breath, but I would love more than anything to reunite with Jamie Foxx. He is the most fun, incredible acting partner in the world.
Implications of Franco’s Remarks on Day Shift Sequel
A Sequel Remains Within Reach

Franco’s statements suggest that Netflix remains open to the idea of a sequel, which is a positive indication for fans of the film. The mere existence of discussions implies that it’s not just wishful thinking among dedicated viewers. While the film’s mixed reviews could hinder its revival, strong audience interest may sway production decisions. Franco’s eagerness to reprise his role is certainly a major asset, but any sequel will ultimately hinge on Foxx’s participation as the lead.
Jamie Foxx, an Oscar-winning actor recognized for his performance in Ray (2004), is currently navigating a hectic schedule. Since the release of Day Shift, he has appeared in six additional projects. His forthcoming endeavors are equally significant; he will direct, write, and produce All-Star Weekend (2025), produce Geechee, and star in Tin Soldier. Furthermore, he is set to both produce and star in a limited series centered on Mike Tyson. Given Foxx’s packed calendar, dedicating time to a potential sequel could pose a challenge for Netflix.
Our Perspective on a Possible Day Shift Sequel
A Sequel Remains an Unlikely Scenario

While the prospect of a sequel excites fans, its likelihood appears slim at this juncture. Foxx’s overwhelming workload and the film’s mixed critical reception create significant obstacles for Netflix’s production planning. Although the recent success of horror features like Nosferatu (2025) showcases ongoing audience interest in vampire stories, it is worth noting that those films adopt a vastly different tone. A horror-comedy packed with action entails higher production costs, which may deter Netflix from pursuing the project further. Although whispers of a Day Shift sequel persist, the reality remains that it is unlikely to come to fruition in the near future.
