Jalen Brunson Stats Tonight (March 29): Knicks All-Star sets new career high vs Spurs
On Friday night, although Jalen Brunson scored a career-high 61 points for the New York Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs were able to secure a hard-fought 130-126 overtime victory.
Victor Wembanyama put on a remarkable display, scoring a career-high 40 points and also grabbing an impressive 20 rebounds and dishing out seven assists.
Despite Brunson’s incredible performance, he was unable to surpass Carmelo Anthony’s franchise record of 62 points set on Jan. 24, 2014. During a crucial moment in overtime, Brunson missed a game-changing 3-pointer with only 5.4 seconds left, preventing the Knicks from taking the lead.
Brunson achieved the fifth-highest point total in the NBA for this season.
Wembanyama’s influence extended beyond his scoring abilities as he secured the win for San Antonio by hitting a crucial 3-pointer, increasing their lead to four points in overtime.
Wembanyama’s performance was a significant accomplishment, making him the first rookie since Shaquille O’Neal on Feb. 16, 1993, to achieve a 40-point, 20-rebound game. Furthermore, he also added a blocked shot and a steal, earning his 39th double-double in only 65 games.
With 4:39 left in regulation, Donte DiVincenzo drained a 3-pointer to give New York a 113-112 lead. The game remained closely contested, with five ties in the final minutes, leading to the game going into overtime.
Although the clutch shot was a standout moment, DiVincenzo’s impact on the game was much more than that. He finished with an impressive 20 points and also made Knicks’ history by breaking the single-season record for 3-pointers with an impressive total of 245.
