MSI has introduced an exciting new option in its lineup aimed at entry-level users: the MAG B850M Gaming PRO MAX. This motherboard boasts an innovative OC Engine designed specifically for overclocking Ryzen processors.
Introducing the OC Engine: Enhancing Overclocking on a Budget
MSI’s MAX series refresh brings notable enhancements, particularly with the inclusion of an external BCLK generator, referred to as the OC Engine. This feature offers independent BCLK control, significantly improving the overclocking capabilities of compatible AMD Ryzen systems. This advancement is particularly beneficial for budget-conscious users looking for optimal performance.

Examining the specifications, the MSI MAG B850M Gaming PRO MAX WIFI motherboard features a micro ATX design, compatible with the latest Ryzen 9000 series CPUs. It supports four memory slots, facilitating speeds of up to 8200 MT/s and a total capacity of 256 GB DDR5, showcasing impressive specifications for an entry-level product.
The motherboard is equipped with two PCIe x16 slots, one of which operates at Gen5 x16 speeds directly from the CPU, while the other utilizes four Gen4 lanes from the chipset. Additionally, there are three M.2 slots: one supports full Gen5 x4 capabilities, and the other two operate at Gen4 x4/x2 speeds, all placed under robust Frozr heatsinks for optimal thermal management.
Speaking of thermal performance, the aesthetic design of the motherboard features dual heatsinks for the VRMs and an additional heatsink over the B850 PCH. The VRM heatsinks are outfitted with high-performance 7W/mK thermal pads, ensuring effective heat dissipation during intensive tasks.

MSI has also integrated a variety of user-friendly DIY features, including an EZ PCIe Release mechanism for graphics cards, straightforward M.2 SSD installation, and an EZ Button located on the rear that aids in BIOS Flash and Clear CMOS processes. For power supply, users will find an 8-pin connector along with a supplementary 8-pin connector for PCIe slots, complemented by an 8+4 pin layout for CPU power. The motherboard’s power delivery system utilizes an 8+2+1 Direct Power Design VRM structure, built on a six-layer server-grade PCB.
