“It’s Giving Serena Post-Bender” — Internet Critiques Blake Lively’s Promotional Photos for Blake Brown Beauty Haircare Brand

On September 29, 2024, Blake Lively showcased her haircare brand, Blake Brown Beauty, on Instagram. In the post, she sported a fashionable brown overcoat, highlighting her hair, and included a playful caption that humorously acknowledged her oblivion towards hairbrushes and shirts.

Since the launch of her brand on August 4, 2024, Blake has been fervently promoting it, particularly during her promotional activities for It Ends With Us. Her latest campaign has garnered significant attention, with numerous users sharing their opinions on X.

One online user referenced her iconic role as Serena van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl and tweeted:

“It’s giving Serena after a bender”

Another user commented on Blake’s hair in the campaign: “Just matty, split end, lack luster hair”an X user remarked.

“Unless she did her hair and then got stranded on a forest island for a month and took these immediately upon rescue”, another X user shared.

“young gen z simply can’t comprehend the hold that bed head hair had on the culture in 2012 (the year Blake Lively is still stuck in)”, an internet user observed.

Furthermore, several users stated that Blake’s hair appears better in her everyday photos and suggested that she doesn’t style it appropriately for her campaign shots:

“She’s got amazing hair too; in every normal photo her hair looks so much better, but when it comes to her campaign photos, it’s a whole nother story. It’s like she doesn’t brush it or something”, an X user lamented.

“I swear on every normal photo her hair looks better”, another X user commented.

“No experience can define you, you define you”- Blake Lively addresses film character after backlash for brand promotion

Blake Lively’s recent social media activities follow a hiatus she took amidst controversy surrounding her promotion of It Ends With Us. Initially, as Blake began promoting the film based on domestic violence in August 2024, her co-lead and director, Justin Baldoni, was reportedly promoting the film separately, which led to speculations of a feud.

According to Cinema Blend, rumors emerged regarding disagreements between Justin and Blake about an alternate cut of the film during post-production. Additionally, Lively referred to on-set disagreements in interviews without naming anyone specifically.

As Blake was also promoting her haircare line and sparkling cocktail brand, Betty Booze, alongside the movie, many social media users labeled her “tone deaf.”This backlash led to older interviews of the actress resurfacing, painting her responses as inappropriate.

To shift the narrative, Blake Lively shared a segment from her interview during the London premiere of the film on Instagram Stories on August 13, 2024. Discussing her character, Lily Bloom, the actress stated:

“This movie covers domestic violence, but what’s important is that she is not just a survivor and she’s not just a victim. While those are significant, they’re not her identity. She defines herself, and I think it’s empowering to remind people that no one else can define you. No experience can define you, you define you.”

Additionally, as reported by The Independent on August 15, 2024, a journalist shared an anecdote from a 2016 interview with Blake that left her wanting to quit her job.

In other news, Blake Lively has produced It Ends With Us, which has become the highest-grossing box office success of her career. The actress is set to star in A Simple Favor 2 alongside Anna Kendrick.
