“It’s an honor” – Jonathan Di Bella says fighting at Lumpinee Stadium was a childhood dream come true

Jonathan Di Bella is proud to carry on fulfilling his childhood aspiration of competing at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

Di Bella solidified his reputation as a highly regarded kickboxer before joining ONE, remaining undefeated. In October 2022, he further elevated his standing by defeating Zhang Peimian and claiming the vacant ONE strawweight kickboxing world title.

A year later, Di Bella successfully defended his throne against Danial Williams for the second time at the renowned Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. This victory not only solidified his legacy, but also fulfilled his lifelong dream of competing at the historic venue in Thailand.

In an interview with ONE, Di Bella expressed his gratitude for the chance to compete at Lumpinee and praised Prajanchai ahead of his monumental world title defense.

“I’ve been dreaming about fighting in Thailand since I was a kid. I’ve always wanted to fight in Lumpinee. Not many people could even say they fought at Lumpinee or in Thailand in general. So, to fight on the biggest events, one of the biggest events of the year, it’s an honor, for sure.”

On April 5, the ONE strawweight kickboxing champion will once again step into the stadium he has always dreamed of for the ONE Friday Fights 58 co-main event. This time, Di Bella’s goal is to defend his title against the current ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion, Prajanchai, who recently reclaimed his belt in a match against Joseph Lasiri.

ONE Championship Dreams of Holding Event at Iconic Madison Square Garden

Despite having only fought twice under the ONE Championship banner, Jonathan Di Bella has achieved numerous accomplishments. However, at 27 years old, he is just beginning his journey and has a significant dream that he shared in an interview with 4oz to Freedom.

“I keep mentioning to [ONE Championship CEO] Chatri [Sityodtong] that we’re going back, we’re going to go to the Garden one day, and yeah, hopefully it’s gonna happen.”

Prior to thinking about the future, Di Bella’s main focus is on his upcoming fight at ONE Friday Fights 58. However, this may not be an easy task, as Prajanchai’s performance in December 2023 was exceptional, as he defeated Joseph Lasiri in the first round to claim the ONE strawweight Muay Thai championship.

You can watch ONE Friday Fights 58 live and for free on ONE Championship’s digital platforms.
