“It’s all business with that” – Brendan Allen on Israel Adesanya potentially getting a title shot against Dricus du Plessi next

During a YouTube interview with The Schmo, Brendan Allen discussed the potential match-up between Israel Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis for the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 305. Despite being ranked No.6 in the division, Allen believes he can quickly rise to title contention.

Despite this, Adesanya’s title fight against du Plessis is largely attributed to his popularity as a pay-per-view attraction and the convenience of UFC 305 taking place in Perth, Australia, which is close to his home as ‘The Last Stylebender’.

“That’s insane by itself, but hey that’s in Perth, you know? Izzy can sell, he’s big, he’s just still a money maker, you know? He’s still a face. It’s all business with that, you know? It’s not skill-based, even though he is talented, but I don’t know, it’s hard to say. You get a title shot coming off of what he’s coming off, the loss, so, I don’t know. It is what it is.”

Take a look at Brendan Allen’s remarks on the fight between Israel Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis (1:47):

The UFC has a strong motivation to schedule a title fight between Adesanya and du Plessis. As Allen correctly pointed out, Adesanya is a major draw for pay-per-view events. Additionally, ‘The Last Stylebender’ has a longstanding personal feud with the South African champion, which is sure to capture the interest of fans.

Although Allen believes that the middleweight division should move on from the trend of Adesanya always being in title contention, he is not in a position to argue as he is currently ranked just outside the top five. However, he is on the brink of breaking into the top tier. Before he can do so, he will have to defeat Chris Curtis in a rematch at UFC Vegas 90, as he had previously lost to him.

Brendan Allen’s Impressive Win Streak Continues

Brendan Allen has established a remarkable record in the middleweight division, notching six consecutive victories. His signature rear-naked choke has led to five of those wins by submission. Jacob Malkoun is the only opponent who managed to withstand his dominant grappling.

Despite the efforts of Paul Craig, a renowned grappler himself, Allen was not stopped from attempting to submit him. As there are currently few skilled grapplers in the top five middleweight rankings, Allen aims to join the ranks of the elite 185-pound fighters, where he can utilize his strong submission abilities.
