“It Doesn’t Completely Surprise Me”— Joan from The Golden Bachelorette Discusses Guy’s Restraining Order

Reality television enthusiasts were thrilled when ABC unveiled The Golden Bachelorette, a follow-up to the successful The Golden Bachelor. Premiering on September 18, 2024, the show stars 61-year-old Joan Vassos, who embarks on a quest to find true love among eligible bachelors. Joan previously participated in the preceding show.

As the sixth episode of The Golden Bachelorette aired, Joan made a significant decision by narrowing her choices down to the final three bachelors, who are now in contention to join her in the finale. The hopefuls are Chock, Guy, and Pascal.

Following the release of episode 4, Guy publicly shared on Instagram on October 10, 2024, that he had faced a restraining order filed by his ex-wife in 2021. Joan addressed this matter during her appearance on The Viall Files podcast on October 23, explaining that such revelations did not catch her off guard, as everyone carries past experiences.

“The Golden franchise is distinct because we all arrive with a rich history. We have experienced a lot, and it doesn’t astonish me that there are aspects they might not take pride in,” Joan expressed.

Guy from The Golden Bachelorette discusses the events surrounding the restraining order

Guy’s restraining order situation has attracted considerable media scrutiny, with numerous outlets reporting extensively on the story. As noted, Guy shared more insights through his Instagram post on October 10, 2024.

During his candid explanation, the finalist from The Golden Bachelorette acknowledged the weight of public scrutiny and mentioned that the “stressful”episode concluded when his spouse opted to withdraw the protective order.

“My ex-wife and I have recently requested the court to seal her application for the protective order, as we wished to preserve our family’s privacy,” Guy revealed.

Guy was previously married to his ex-wife for 34 years, with whom he raised four children—a feat he considers his most significant achievement. As he competes in the finale, he awaits Joan’s decision on whether he could be the one she has been searching for all along.

In light of the challenging times with his ex-wife, Guy mentioned he has engaged in profound self-reflection and developed a commitment to bettering himself. He also expressed gratitude for the support he has received from The Golden Bachelorette community and Bachelor Nation during this tumultuous period.

According to an article by People published on October 10, 2024, Guy’s ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, filed for a temporary restraining order, valid for “45 days only,” on October 12, 2021. In her filing, Heidi instructed that Guy should only communicate with her via email regarding parenting matters.

Heidi claimed that starting in July 2021, Guy sent her messages attempting to “reconcile.” However, her account states that he later exhibited anger and “physically tried to threaten” her. On the day she petitioned for the order, she alleged that Guy confronted her and her sister at the gym and put an object under her tire.

She also detailed that he “mimed shooting” her with his hand, shaped like a gun. Moreover, Heidi cited in her court documents that Guy appeared to be “unstable” and had told his sister he “took 10 pills” of an unspecified nature.

By November 3, 2021, a judge approved Heidi’s request to dismiss the protective order application. In a subsequent interview with People, she affirmed her love for her family, including her children and new grandson, and withdrew the restraining order to uphold the family’s privacy.
