What’s New in Microsoft Edge 138
Microsoft has just launched Edge 138, introducing an array of exciting features including AI-driven history search, performance notifications, and enhanced autofill consent options. As with previous updates, this version also incorporates new administrative policies that IT leaders should be aware of to optimize their setup.
Key Updates for IT Administrators
While Edge 138 adds six new policies, the great news is that the security baseline remains unchanged from Edge 128. This means organizations do not need to reassess their security frameworks extensively. Nevertheless, Microsoft strongly encourages IT administrators to examine two specific settings currently in preview, as they are slated to be activated by default in future releases:
- Control over TLS 1.3 Early Data: This feature allows for the simultaneous sending of HTTPS requests during the TLS 1.3 handshake, potentially enhancing performance for secure connections. Microsoft advises IT admins to test this function to anticipate any compatibility challenges that might arise.
- Blocking Public Website Requests to Local Network Devices: This policy is crucial for enhancing cybersecurity by preventing unauthorized access to internal resources, such as printers or APIs, from malicious public websites. IT administrators are encouraged to validate this setting to ensure that legitimate external requests are not inadvertently blocked. It’s worth noting that a label indicating the feature as deprecated is a mistake, which will be corrected in future updates.

In total, Microsoft has rolled out six new policies in this version. These policies include:
