- Performance concerns plague the PC port of Rise of the Ronin.
- Significant optimization issues necessitate a high-end PC for satisfactory gameplay.
- Team Ninja has a history of challenges with PC adaptations.
The anticipated PC port of Rise of the Ronin has come under scrutiny due to notable performance issues. This version, set to launch nearly a year after its PlayStation 5 debut, is not the first Team Ninja game to face hurdles in the PC realm.
Initially released in March 2024, Rise of the Ronin garnered generally favorable reviews, praised for its engaging historical storyline and robust RPG mechanics. However, excitement for the PC port, announced in January 2025, has since been tempered by reports highlighting serious performance shortcomings just days before its release.
As reported by PushSquare, early impressions indicate that Rise of the Ronin suffers from significant optimization problems. Critics assert that the game “requires an excessively powerful computer to provide an acceptable experience.”This is somewhat surprising considering that the PlayStation 5 version was often criticized for having outdated graphics, albeit buoyed by effective art direction. While it’s conceivable that pre-release reviews may be based on an unpatched version, the initial feedback raises concerns.
Performance Challenges Faced by Rise of the Ronin on PC

This isn’t the first instance where Team Ninja has faced backlash regarding PC releases. The studio’s previous title, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, experienced significant review bombings on Steam following its March 2023 debut, similarly plagued by performance challenges despite a simultaneous release across all platforms. Both games utilize the Katana Engine, raising questions about whether optimization can be swiftly addressed through patches.
As Team Ninja gears up for an active year in 2025, they have already released Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, and now the Rise of the Ronin PC port is on the horizon. Additionally, fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, slated for release later in 2025. Furthermore, there are new developments in the dating simulator genre, with Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme. While these diverse projects may not overextend Team Ninja’s resources, it remains essential for the studio to maintain high quality across all offerings.
