Is The Wild Robot Coming to Netflix? All You Need to Know

Based on Peter Brown’s acclaimed novel, The Wild Robot is an animated feature directed by Chris Sanders. The narrative centers around a robot named ROZZUM unit 7134, also known as Roz, who finds herself stranded on an uninhabited island, learning how to thrive in the wilderness. This cinematic adventure hit theaters on September 27, 2024.

For those eager for its streaming debut, The Wild Robot is expected to premiere on Netflix around May 2025. This follows a deal established in July 2021 between DreamWorks and Netflix, allowing the film to stream on Netflix in mid-2025 after its period on Peacock.

The official synopsis states:

“The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot–ROZZUM unit 7134, or ‘Roz’–who is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the island’s animals and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.”

The Wild Robot: When will it be available on Netflix?

Netflix will obtain streaming rights during the pay-1 window, which lasts for 18 months, starting approximately four months after the theatrical release. During this period, both Netflix and Peacock will share streaming rights. Peacock will stream the movie for the initial four months, with Netflix taking over for the next ten months, and subsequently, it will revert back to Peacock for the remaining four months.

Following its first window on Peacock, DreamWorks Animation’s agreement with Netflix permits their animated films to be available for streaming on Netflix. Thus, The Wild Robot will stream on Netflix for ten months beginning in May 2025 after a four-month initial run on Peacock starting in January 2025, before returning to Peacock for a concluding window in 2026.

Other Streaming Platforms

The Wild Robot will initially debut on Peacock in January 2025, prior to its Netflix launch. Universal’s strategy focuses on premiering films on their own streaming service before expanding to other platforms. Prior to its Peacock release, viewers may also find the movie available for digital purchase or rental on platforms like Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

Chris Sanders, renowned for his previous works on Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, directs The Wild Robot.
