As viewers, our appetite for engrossing television shows continues to grow, especially with series like Severance, which many consider the pinnacle of American TV storytelling in this generation. While Season 2 made significant strides in unraveling some of its intricate mysteries, numerous questions remain unanswered, fueling our desire for more. We are eager for a resolution and, quite frankly, we demand a Season 3. But the real question is: will it happen?
The trajectory that Severance appears to be taking suggests that the upcoming third season could very well be its concluding chapter. This bittersweet realization strikes a chord, particularly because we appreciate the brilliance of the show. However, the potential for a neatly wrapped-up narrative is far more appealing than the convoluted mess we saw with other series, such as Lost. Fortunately, the creators of Severance seem dedicated to meticulously sculpting their story.
Now, let’s delve into the likelihood of seeing a third season. There’s a mix of good news and bad news on this front.
Not Confirmed, Yet Highly Likely
While Apple TV+ has not yet issued an official renewal confirmation for Season 3 of Severance, there are positive indicators suggesting that a return is on the horizon.
In a February interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Stiller, the executive producer and director of the series, disclosed that a writers’ room has already been established for the next season. This proactive step, taken before an official announcement, bodes well for the show’s future.
The fact that Stiller openly discussed the writers’ room suggests that a renewal is likely, eliminating the frustrating multi-year waits between seasons. During the same interview, he emphasized the importance of expediting future production for the Severance team.
Moreover, Apple recognizes the cultural significance of Severance. So much so that Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, personally participated in promotional efforts for Season 2. Presently, Severance stands as one of the flagship titles on Apple TV+, rivaled only by Ted Lasso, which has already produced three seasons, with a fourth currently on the way.
Given these developments, it appears that if Severance is aiming for a third season, Apple TV+ is strategically poised to support that ambition. The last thing we need is for Apple to handle it like Netflix does with abrupt cancellations. Let’s hope they don’t go down that route!
