Is Nicholas Scratch Really Dead? Clues from Agatha All Along Episode 5 Reveal the Truth

Agatha All Along, a captivating supernatural series crafted by Jac Schaeffer, made its debut on Disney+ on September 18, 2024. The narrative centers around Kathryn Hahn, who returns as the notorious witch Agatha. Following the events of WandaVision, Agatha finds herself stripped of her powers and embarks on a quest to reclaim them by navigating the challenges of the Witches’ Road alongside her newly assembled coven.

Episode five, titled Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power, aired on October 9, 2024. It depicted Agatha and her coven facing their third trial along the Witches’ Road, where they ventured into a cabin adorned with 1980s flair. Their challenge involved conducting a séance to contact the spirits of the deceased using an Ouija board.

They invoke the spirit of Agatha’s mother, Evanora Harkness, who possesses her daughter’s form and menaces the rest of the witches. Initially, the others, almost frozen in apprehension, hesitate to step in. Yet, Alice boldly confronts the spirit, using her powers to repel Evanora from Agatha. As Evanora is banished, Agatha, remaining true to her nature, begins siphoning power from Alice.

Witnessing this shocking turn, the other witches plead for her to cease before Alice is fatally harmed. In a moment of panic, Teen resorts to the Ouija board, which spells out ‘Nicholas Scratch.’ In a startling revelation, a child’s voice cries out, “Stop, mommy.”

This crucial scene confirms that Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch, is, indeed, deceased and reaching out from beyond the grave. Hearing her son’s voice causes Agatha to freeze momentarily; however, it is too late for Alice, who collapses lifelessly.

Nicholas was first alluded to in the series’ second episode, where Jennifer reveals to Teen that Agatha made a grave sacrifice of her child to obtain the Darkhold. It remains uncertain if the series will further explore Nicholas’s fate and the specifics surrounding his demise in its upcoming episodes.

In the premiere episode, Agatha encounters a mysterious goth figure known simply as ‘Teen,’ who expresses a desire to join her on the perilous Witches’ Road. This character’s true identity has become one of the series’ well-guarded secrets, inciting numerous fan theories regarding his background and identity.

A prevalent conspiracy among fans suggested that Teen might actually be Nicholas Scratch, Agatha’s son. However, the revelations in episode five effectively dispelled this theory as Teen’s identity was unveiled in the final moments.

When Teen confronts Agatha over Alice’s death, she retaliates with a remark about his mother, revealing her awareness of Teen’s true identity despite the protective sigil that prevents him from divulging personal information.

Enraged, Teen channels his magical abilities by invading the bodies of Jen and Lilia, compelling them to eliminate Agatha by submerging her in mud, subsequently killing both witches in the process.

The plot takes a significant twist as the camera pulls back to reveal Teen donning a blue crown reminiscent of the Scarlet Witch’s headdress, affirmatively indicating that he is indeed Billy Kaplan, the reincarnation of Wanda’s son. As he matures, Billy will evolve into a new persona known as Wiccan and eventually become a Young Avenger.

New episodes of Agatha All Along are available for streaming every Wednesday at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT.
