Saving Sun Jian in Dynasty Warriors Origins

Historically, Sun Jian met his demise in 191 AD during the Battle of Xiangyang while engaging Liu Biao’s forces. Accounts of his death are diverse, with historical texts varying on details such as the exact cause—ranging from a barrage of arrows to being struck by boulders. The Dynasty Warriors games, particularly titles like Dynasty Warriors 8, introduced alternate scenarios where players could change such pivotal historical events. This leads many to question: Can players rescue Sun Jian in Dynasty Warriors Origins?

Can You Alter History?

The answer is a definitive yes! Players have the opportunity to save Sun Jian during the Battle of Xiangyang in Dynasty Warriors Origins. However, this guide comes with a caution—spoilers for the stage are present below.

Steps to Save Sun Jian

Commencing the stage from the eastern river bank, your first action should be to head southwest. Defeating the enemy generals along this route will help facilitate a smoother advance for Sun Ce’s army. It’s advisable to avoid engaging the enemies positioned in the northeast—instead, consider neutralizing the solitary general, Cai He, who poses a threat with his advance toward your allies.

As you progress towards the base at the narrow path’s end, Sun Jian will find himself in peril at the southwest corner of the map. To successfully save him, it is crucial to promptly reach the westmost gate and have your troops open it.

Facing Challenges Along the Way

Your mission won’t be without obstacles, as the game will present formidable challenges to test your skills. The spirits of Zhang Jiao and his followers from the Yellow Turban army will materialize to obstruct your path. They will be stationed at the only route leading to Sun Jian, making it essential to defeat Zhang Jiao’s ghost first. This encounter will be intense since the ghost possesses maximum courage, demanding significant effort to overcome.

A key strategy for saving Sun Jian is ensuring you reach him before Huang Gai does. After vanquishing Zhang Jiao’s ghost, make your way south without delay. Engaging Huang Zu or other officers may be tempting, but remember that your priority should be reaching Sun Jian swiftly to secure his survival.

Alternate Endings Await

Successfully rescuing Sun Jian will culminate the Battle of Xiangyang stage with an alternate ending. However, it’s important to note that doing so will preclude the simultaneous achievement of the Ultimate Warrior difficulty challenge, which involves defeating the enemy leader Liu Biao at the fortress’s northern end. If you wish to tackle that objective, replaying the stage in Free Mode is recommended for the best results.
