In a surprising turn of events, the production of Good Omens season 3, which was initially put on hold due to accusations of s*xual harassment against Neil Gaiman, will now be condensed into a single episode. This decision follows Gaiman’s departure from the project. The series draws its inspiration from the novel of the same title by Terry Pratchett and Gaiman himself.
The concluding season of Good Omens will consist of just one 90-minute episode, designed to bring closure to the narrative. Given that Neil Gaiman was instrumental in the show’s creation, his absence will inevitably alter its trajectory.
Amazon has officially announced that Gaiman will not be part of the third season moving forward. While he was involved in earlier stages of development prior to the allegations, he has since stepped back from all functions associated with the series. Previously, he held the titles of creator, executive producer, and showrunner for the acclaimed Prime Video production.
Filming for season 3 of Good Omens is set to begin in Scotland in early 2025, according to the latest updates.
Why Was Good Omens Season 3 Production Delayed?
This was already intended to be the concluding season of Good Omens, which has garnered considerable critical praise since its launch in 2019. However, production was paused due to allegations of s*xual misconduct against Neil Gaiman, who authored the original novel upon which the series is based.
Earlier this year, multiple women accused Gaiman of s*xual assault, as detailed in a podcast titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. Although he has denied all allegations, Gaiman chose to withdraw from producing Good Omens to enable the conclusion of the series with the third season.
Since September 2024, the series’ production has faced uncertainty, leading to the announcement that a single episode would wrap up season 3, a rare occurrence in the realm of television.
The renewal of the third season for the Neil Gaiman series took place in December 2023.
Amazon Prime Video Has Another Neil Gaiman Adaptation in the Works
In addition to Good Omens season 3, Amazon Prime Video is also developing another adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s work titled Anansi Boys. Production on this series has been completed, though it currently lacks a set release date. The controversy surrounding Gaiman may also impact this project.
Both series are part of an exclusive first-look agreement between Gaiman and Amazon. However, it seems unlikely that additional adaptations of Gaiman’s literary works will be forthcoming from Amazon in the near future.
Further information regarding Good Omens season 3 is anticipated to surface shortly.
