Is Anthony Davis playing tonight against Washington Wizards? Latest on 9-time NBA All-Star’s status (April 3)
Despite concerns about his status due to multiple leg injuries this season, Anthony Davis is expected to take the court for the LA Lakers’ game against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. While the team is playing on the second night of a back-to-back, Davis has been a consistent presence on the court, playing in 70 out of 76 games and proving to be their most reliable player since Feb. 2023. He has been listed on the Lakers’ injury report, but has continued to play through any discomfort.
Since his time with the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2017-18 season, Davis has not played in more than 60 games per season. However, this year he has already played 70 games, making it his highest number in a single season. This significant increase in games played has him on track to participate in his 71st game of the season on Wednesday.
The Injury that Sideline Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis suffered a hyperextended left knee during the 128-124 double overtime victory against the Bucks on March 26. As a result, he was unable to play in the next game against Memphis due to it being the second night of a back-to-back. Prior to the knee injury, Davis had been managing bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, resulting in his status being listed as probable or questionable for every game since January.
Anthony Davis’ Performance Against the Washington Wizards
Despite playing 16 games against the Washington Wizards, Anthony Davis has only been able to secure five wins. However, as a Laker, he has managed to win four times against the Wizards, maintaining an average of 26.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
During the Lakers’ last home game against Washington on Feb. 29, he recorded 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks, helping secure a 134-131 victory in overtime.
Lakers and Anthony Davis: A Perfectly Timed Partnership
The LA Lakers have been on a hot streak in the NBA, winning seven out of their last eight games, including a five-game winning streak. This has helped them reach a 10-game winning record, a feat they have not achieved since the 2020-21 season. While they currently hold the ninth spot in the Western Conference standings, their strong performance suggests they may climb higher.
Amid this 7-1 run, Davis has continued to live up to expectations and be a major influence on the team. In the six games he has played, he has averaged an impressive 26.3 points, 16.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting at a 57% field goal percentage, 32% from three-point range, and 77% from the free throw line. This season, Davis has truly excelled and silenced any doubts about his durability and consistency that he faced in previous seasons.
Despite being considered an underdog, the Lakers continue to be a strong contender, largely due to the significant contributions made by Davis throughout the season. LA will rely on Davis to maintain this level of performance during the postseason, as it will greatly impact their chances of making another successful playoff run.
