Apple is gearing up to unveil the eagerly awaited iPhone 17 series later this year, likely in September, alongside the new Apple Watch Series 10. This release aims to introduce a variety of design options that distinguish this lineup from previous models, potentially revitalizing sales in key markets, particularly China. Recent mockups of the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and standard iPhone 17 have surfaced, showcasing essential design elements derived from the company’s internal documentation.
Exciting New Features of the iPhone 17 Lineup
The latest visuals highlighting the iPhone 17 series were shared by the YouTube channel iDeviceHelp. These mockups, created in collaboration with designer Majin Bu, also reflect the anticipated design changes revealed last month. Notably, Apple is set to launch a substantially revamped iPhone 17 Pro and introduce an all-new iPhone 17 Air, both following a harmonious design theme. The standard iPhone 17, however, is expected to retain a look very similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 16.
Significant modifications in the design of the iPhone 17 Pro feature a large camera bar that runs across the top of the device, incorporating camera sensors, LED flash, LiDAR scanner, and microphone. This new camera bar is expected to be black regardless of the iPhone’s color, creating a striking dual-tone effect and eliminating the traditional squared-off camera bump.

The iPhone 17 Air mockups demonstrate a similar camera bar, though more compact, as this variant is anticipated to feature a single-lens camera, diverging from dual or triple-lens configurations. We can expect the camera’s performance to be comparable to what is seen in the iPhone 16e, but more details will clarify its capabilities closer to the release date. The button configuration remains consistent with the iPhone 16 lineup, while its dimensions could be roughly equivalent to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Speculation around the iPhone 17 Air suggests it may succeed the ‘Plus’ version within Apple’s lineup, potentially offering a larger screen. It is rumored to be as slim as 5.5mm at its thinnest point, making it the slimmest iPhone ever produced. Performance-wise, it will likely match the iPhone 16’s specifications rather than those of the ‘Pro’ models, leaving its target demographic still uncertain.
Furthermore, the mockups of the standard iPhone 17 reveal a design closely resembling the iPhone 16, distinctively omitting the camera bar. This could appeal to customers depending on their personal design preferences, while simultaneously creating a sharper distinction between the standard and ‘Pro’ models in the lineup.
Industry analyst Jeff Pu has suggested that Apple might move away from titanium in favor of aluminum for the iPhone 17 series, with the exception of the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to maintain the titanium finish. As we approach the launch date, more design insights may emerge. Will the new camera bar entice users to upgrade to the latest models? The tech community is eager to see how these changes will resonate.
