Apple has introduced a noteworthy enhancement in charging capabilities with the launch of its iPhone 17 series. The latest models, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, now support faster charging, reaching 50% battery in approximately 20 minutes when used with a compatible USB-C power adapter. This improvement is significant compared to previous generations, where achieving the same charge would take around 30 minutes.
Apple Enhances iPhone 17 Charging with Accelerated USB-C Technology and New 60W Dynamic Adapter
To complement the upgraded charging speeds, Apple is introducing a new accessory called the “Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max”. This charger features a compact design that allows it to temporarily provide up to 60W of power, although its sustained output is capped at 40W. Priced at $39, this adapter will be available at Apple retail locations and online.
It’s important to note that users are not restricted to purchasing Apple’s charger to take advantage of the increased charging speeds. Apple has confirmed that other compatible high-wattage USB-C chargers will also work effectively for fast charging. While the performance of the Dynamic charger has yet to be fully evaluated in real-world conditions, further information will be available soon.
In a contrasting development, the ultra-sleek iPhone Air does not accommodate these faster charging speeds, adhering instead to the iPhone 16’s specifications. Users can anticipate a charging time of about 30 minutes to reach 50% battery, which, while functional, falls short of the capabilities offered by the iPhone 17 series. Pre-orders for the entire iPhone 17 lineup began on September 12, with shipping scheduled for September 19.
