Apple’s recent unveiling of iOS 26 has created significant excitement in the technology sector, particularly due to its innovative Liquid Glass redesign. It appears that the company is also gearing up to introduce several software enhancements with the iPhone 17 series. Although details regarding changes to the Dynamic Island interface were not a focal point during the WWDC 2025 event, whispers from a well-regarded leaker on Weibo suggest that these new models may feature exclusive updates. Additionally, it’s rumored that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will share the same bezels as the current iPhone 16 Pro iterations.
iPhone 17: A Potential Game Changer for Apple’s Standard and Pro Models
Insights from a reliable Chinese leaker, known as Digital Chat Station, who has a history of accurate predictions about unreleased Apple products, have suggested upcoming software modifications. While the leaker has not divulged extensive details, it is inferred that these changes will primarily revolve around software improvements. There had been previous discussions regarding the possibility of resizing the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro, but according to recent leaks, this redesign might be delayed for a year or two.
The Dynamic Island interface has remained unchanged since its debut with the iPhone 14 Pro series. Now, it has been integrated into the standard iPhone 16 as well as the iPhone 16 Plus. Apple’s strategy for distinguishing the iPhone 17 from its predecessors seems to be heavily focused on introducing advanced software capabilities, set to launch coinciding with the iOS 26 release later this year. Reports regarding the iPhone 17 Pro Max indicate that it may feature a compact, elongated Dynamic Island. However, conflicting sources suggest this alteration may debut with the iPhone 18 Pro Max instead.
Apple is steadily progressing towards realizing its vision of an all-screen iPhone, and the upcoming 20th anniversary model could surpass expectations in its enhancements. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are also slated to receive a new hardware feature that has already been well-received in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro boasts the thinnest bezels of any Apple device to date, and the leaker confirms that the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will adopt similar bezels. This is noteworthy for consumers who prefer more budget-friendly options, but still want a modern aesthetic. Apple has notably stated regarding the bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro models:
The new Pro lineup features the thinnest borders of any Apple product and introduces larger display sizes: 6.3 inches on iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches on iPhone 16 Pro Max — the largest iPhone display ever.
It’s anticipated that all iPhone 17 variants will showcase ultra-thin bezels, aligning the standard model closer in appearance to the ‘Pro’ versions from the front. Additionally, earlier reports indicate that the base iPhone 17 may benefit from a higher refresh rate display. However, unlike the LTPO panels used in the iPhone 16 Pro models, there’s a possibility that this standard display won’t support Always-On technology. We will continue to monitor developments and share comprehensive updates, ensuring you remain informed about all the latest trends and rumors in the Apple ecosystem.
