iPhone 16’s Camera Control Feature to Arrive on Android Devices Soon

Last month, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 series, which offers only slight advancements compared to the iPhone 15 series released the previous year. A notable addition to the iPhone 16 lineup is the newly introduced Camera Control button, despite some debate over its overall utility.

Although this feature is not entirely novel within the smartphone market, Apple’s implementation has brought increased attention to the dedicated camera shutter button concept. In a recent announcement, OPPO confirmed that its forthcoming Find X8 series will also feature a similar camera button.

Zhou Yibao, a representative from OPPO, shared this update via a video on the Chinese social media site Weibo. He noted that the Find X8 series will incorporate a pressure-sensitive camera button, positioned analogously to that of the iPhone 16 series. Users can conveniently double-tap the button to open the camera app and press it lightly to capture photos.

Moreover, Apple’s Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 adds swipe-gesture options for zooming and switching between various camera modes. It appears OPPO has mirrored this functionality in the camera shutter button of the Find X8 series.

One of the most interesting points highlighted in the video, sourced from Android Authority, is that the shutter button on the OPPO Find X8 series is functional even underwater, including its swipe features. Product manager Zhou Yibao elaborated on the rationale behind this inclusion.

He explained that traditional touchscreen interfaces become ineffective when submerged, making a dedicated button essential for underwater photography. The ability to use swipe gestures for zooming while underwater is another advantage offered by the Find X8 series. Zhou added that despite most smartphones allowing photo capture through volume buttons, “over 95% of users”are unaware of this capability.

While the statistic Zhou provided may raise eyebrows, he pointed out that volume buttons do not facilitate simultaneous photo capture and zooming, necessitating a choice between these functionalities. Nonetheless, the Find X8 series, particularly the Find X8 Pro model, is anticipated to be a formidable player in the camera smartphone market. OPPO is expected to introduce the Find X8 series to a global audience in 2025.
